Managed to gain access to the inspection pit at work today - was able to get a couple of jobs done but found that there is about 3/4 inch of free rotation in the front prop shaft. Does this indicate a worn universal joint? I guess it's pretty easy to replace myself, but is there anything I should worry about?

are you sure all 3/4 are in the prop? and not backlash in the gearbox and diff.
but there shouldnt be any play at all in the prop.
take one end off the prop and twist it then, if you can feel play then you need to think about new ujs.
but make sure its not play in the cardon (i thibk thats the name for the sliding sline in the middle).

if thats 3/4 in the prop youve beaten me for 2 wrecked uj's
its more than likely the backlash in the transmision and is perfectly normal

I'm getting a clunk too when changing up and down the gears, mainly in gears 1-4 at lower speeds. The clunk is the same as when I turned the prop shaft - my old 90 did it too.
