Title: inside checker plate
Post by: kizz81 on January 04, 2007, 12:53:03
we are thinking of plating the front driver and passenger footwell in checker plate so that when we go offroad driving instead of coming home with carpets that are so muddy we can just mop it out, anyone have any ideas because one small sheet from b&q is 43 pounds :o
thanks kieran

Cheapest option is off cuts if you can find some big enough, knowing someone who builds fire engines etc. can be useful.

Try Metal supermarkets, they tend to deal in smaller quanitys of stock compared to some stock holders than only want to sell full lengths/sheets. I've used them a few times whalst building the locost.

You must have finished that locost by now! (not that I can talk)

I got a load of chequerplate from the LRO show, some quite big sheets for £30 ish. Thats the cheapest I've seen it by a long way, if you can wait till summer.

Offcuts somtimes appear on ebay.

Why go to the bother & expense of using chequer plate when you already have an alloy floor-plate fitted as standard?
I have always run bare floors in my LR's and never used anything other than the standard panels which are fitted to the vehicle in the factory, in nearly 20-years I have never had a problem with my feet slipping on a smooth floor-plate.
