Title: Anyone know how to Post a Tyre.......
Post by: Boggert on January 04, 2007, 19:09:25
Ok I know how to post it, but what I want is a parcel carrier that will do it.

I have one for sale on ebay and I don't want to have to lug it to my local post officer all wrapped in brown paper! LOL

so if anyone knows a good carrier or delivery company who will collect could you let me know.

I"ve used Tuffnells to transport tyres in the past and they have been good and reasonable priced - £13 for 4 tyres anywhere in mainland Britain!.

Why do you need to wrap them up, I was going to sell some on flea bay and just wrap the address round on a band or cardboard.  Easier for the postie to carry :D

parcels2go.com or is it parcel2go.com ?
Anyway, they are pretty good and run by DHL, they will collect from you as well, book it all online and pay with paypal so no waiting for the money to clear from ebay sales.
As for packing, just stick a label on, there is no need for anything else! You could wrap in cling film as above if you like and that would halp to hold the label on

Dont have to wrap them up but posties dont like getting dirty hands

I delivered 4 bmw tyres on rims once to a house and it was great as it put some weight over the rear wheels of the rubbish ldv van that just spun its wheels everywhere without trying. I was very thankful, to the chap who ordered them.

dfds and parcelforce will usually wrap them and crate them on collection from your address, they will also label them up as well.

I recently bought a set of alloys with mud tyres, on eBay... I used Palletways... £64 to get them from Kilmarnock to Exeter... they shrink-wrapped them onto a pallet.

They were fobbing you off then as I have seen and delivered tyres in the post before and even a coffee table was sent through twice on 2 different occasions and 1 coffee table only just fitted in the van. There is no limit on size. There is a max weight though. did them selves out of business there then! Their tough luck!!!

I quote from the royal mail book called "mail made easy" the price for standard parcels.

Weight up to            Price
1kg                         £3.46
1.5kg                      Ã‚£4.45
2kg                         £4.78
4kg                         £7.20
6kg                         £7.86
8kg                         £8.96
10kg                       £9.62
20kg                       £11.21

Prices may have gone up since then as the book is a couple of years old but I know they cant use the excuse of they are too heavy as the posties red pouches they have over thier shoulders have a max weight of 16kg and the grey drop bags are 10kg.

Hope this inside info helps you get it posted
