The BBC have just announced that veteran presenter John Peel has sadly died whilst on a working trip to Peru :(
A great shame and loss to music lovers everywhere.

Yes, heard about that earlier.... radio won't be the same without him.
A real pioneer.

Very sad   . He lived next door to a friend of mine and we used to come across him in the local pub now and again. Always in shorts whatever the weather.

I never met the guy, Steve did briefly at Reading festival '92, he had a special place in our hearts.
Steve did GCSE's to Degree studying listening to his music, and is a real music junky in large part to the man.
I used to listen to him, whislt in dodgy bedsits - his voice made me feel 'safe'.
Our youngest never really slept from being first born - till we started playing the radio in his room, he'd settle with 'uncle peel' then he'd start to drift, we used fall asleep too listening to his show.
Glastonbury will never be the same again

Aye he will be missed.
The head of the BBC said that up to the present Peely, sit in on about 200 music dems a year.
Add that up over the 4 decades.
A lorra lorra bands and solp's to thank him.
As well as the general public.
all the best John

very true, definatly a sad loss :(

Heard the sad news myself this evening. Odd in a way that so many of us sharing one pastime feel the loss of an important figure from another, namely music.

He was just such a cool dude, you couldn't help liking him, So laid back, but at the same time such an enthusiastic contagious passion about music.
Micheal Eviss(sp?) is going to name the 'new band' stand after him, which I think is the perfect tribute :)

Gob-smacked to read this.
Not too keen on his recent musical tastes, but having 'Teenage Kicks' as an all-time favourite says something about him.
He'll be missed.
