Ok ... now maybe it's just me, but while I was getting Bagheera serviced (very reasonable apart from the new brake pads for the Brembos that cost £100!), I asked about the prices for a 48,000 for a 1997 D1 .... with the 20% discount it was nearly £900!!!! I decided to change tack and get a 6000 quote .... £290 (with discount!). Now maybe I'm a bit confused here, but why is it more to service a car that is nearly 10 years old....
The running costs of Bagheera are insignificant in comparison, especially with the 15,000-18,000 mile window between services. If I was still running Piglet I'd have had at least 3 x 6000 mile services - which doesn't include mechanical parts like brakes....which would be nigh on £900 ... and a single 16000 service for the RR cost just £300.
Now I know I'm quoting Main Dealer prices here ... but still ..... it's a bit loony isn't it?

:D :D Absolutely Thrasher...that's why I don't use main franchise dealers, you pay for the comfy lounge to sit in and free coffee to drink...I always use my local guys, half the price with no nonsense...typical Yorkshireman...
:) :) Terry (I hate being ripped off) Smith

For Piglet I use independents now, but for Bagheera - I'm not sure how many places are kitted out to deal with them (especially as the V8 is not the old Rover one any more...)
-
I was amazed to find recently that the most expensive LR dealer service is for a TD5 defender....over double the price for a supercharged V8 or any other engine/vehicle.
They couldnt explain why it was so stupidly high but assured me it was correct!
-
that is a little mad isn't it - what special extras happen on a 48k service though compared to any other service ? coolant change, brake fluid change, cambelt (if fitted) ?
the 6k £290 service on the D1 will probably just be an oil change!
mind u, u need some cheaper numbers to offset against the colossal dep'n on a RR!

What was thier hourly rate? I bet it was close to if not more than £100 an hour!
A lot of the main dealers for all makes of cars are around that now!
-
48,000 has the autobox filter changed - which means removing half the underside of the stupidly designed Discovery underpinnings to get it out......hence the stupidly high "hourage" on it ......
Of course I'm not paying that....but it was fun to find out that they have not changed the pricing for a 10 year old vehicle...and some people will STILL be paying that!!

Could you not do it yourself? A lot cheaper that way.

Drop it down to James French Land Rover in Standlake. They'll sort it out for you and they know exactly what they're doing.
