Title: Jag engine in a Series?
Post by: scottydj2 on January 09, 2007, 12:01:24
Hi,

How difficult is it to fit a Jaguar AJ6 engine and auto-box to a Series 3 vehicle?

Why? Because the Series needs more power, and the Jag has been condemmed by the MOT man

I'm sure I've seen someone on here who's done it, but can't find any info . . . . .

Cheers,

Hell of a long unit to fit into a series motor. I doubt that any of the mountings would work.

You would have to redesign the engine bay, probably have to fit an extra cross member, and fit some sort of top brace as well, not to mention a much bigger rad, and oil cooller for the box.

Would a Jag auto box mate to a transfer box? and if it could be made to, would the transfer box take the loading?

Series brakes certainly wouldn't be up to the job of handling the extra loads involved.

That said. There is a thread on another forum..V12 into a 110, though it has been running for a long time, could be worth a look, find out what problems he came up with.

You should have a look at the Project Percy (http://www.zen79997.zen.co.uk/percy/) pages.

I'm sure Lee will be along shortly

Ta DA!

Yes it can be done.... but I Built the car up around the engine after a strip down.

To get the engine out I had to Plasma cut the front cross member off.

Presently I'm partway through fitting a V8 in... it's all in but needs plumbing in.. have all the bits just not the time at the mo.

Jag engine was nice... straight lines were well wicked.

I fitted Stage 1 Axles , had to tweak the rear one to get the pads in the right place and prop angle right. Also put a dogs leg in the front prop to get around the sump which is a well odd elephants ear shape.

Would I do it again? Only if someone said it couldn't be done!

I am not familiar with the AJ engine but I have a XJ6 in my SIIa if thats any use ? I know Ashcrorf did make a conversion plate for a BW 65 or a BW 66 box  to series transfer box . I made my own bell housing  to accept a series gearbox . You have to move some stuff around a bit and alter a few things but it will go in .I won't bore you with the details unless you want to know ?  It all depends on your knowhow and equipment .

There was a chap who had one at bilings about 10 years ago. it had the V12 engine in and had a widened body. which made it look odd.

Every thing like this always depends on how much time you have, and how good you are at engineering. Well to get it right anyway.
