Just got myself a snorkle from Rebel 4x4, but no fitting instructions, the bits seem easy enough to work out, but where do the brackets attach so you can bolt it to the screen?
Is it obvious or do I need to drill holes etc, is dark outside so can't really check to easily and need to look after the kids so can't leave the house unattended
Thought at least some instructions would have come through, but we ordered 2 and both are the same.
Is for a standard Metal round type TD/200TDi fitting.
I guess the silicon is for the connection to the wing and use the self tappers for that bit?
Help please :D

my defender came with the snorkle all ready fitted, but the silicone will be for sealing the connection of the snorkle to the air box, and the self tappers will be for connecting the snorkle to the wing and A pillar you will have to drill pilot holes first before you screw them in. if you get a safari snorkle they normaly come with a template to stick on the car and it tells you where to stick all the holes, its a very easy job on a defender, just dont forget to put a bit of paint on all the holes you drill just to stop it from corroding ;)

Look in my photo gallery for the instructions, they are for a td5 i think but the principle is the same. If you want bigger pics just PM me and ill send you some. :P

When you've done the fitting check the drain valve in the airbox. They are a small black rubber thingy with a V shape at the bottom.
If it's old it will be brittle and cracked. Replace it or better still seal it up and check the airbox periodically yourself.
It cost me an engine rebuild when i drowned mine.
Firkin thing

MM, great instructions and makes more sense now, think I might just rivet the plates on though, just as secure and won't need to strip the inside out to do it

Cheers for the advice, now how does the curent cover come of the wing, I'm guessing I need to undo something from inside, which I guess means moving the heater pioes etc?

there is also one of them drain things where you cant see it!
The plastic thing that is behind the wing (Where you bolt the 1st part of snorkle to) is in 2 parts to go round the bend to mate upto the air pipe. On the bottom edge of this there is another rubber drain thingy exactly same as on the air box.
There is no way of getting to it without either removing inner wing or unbolting the outter wing and bending it out giving enough room to yank it out.
to get the outter cover off just prise it off with a screwdriver, it only clips on.

Snorkle fitted, rocket science it ain't, but out of all those with them fitted, how many have blocked the 2nd drain mud truck has mentioned?
And is this the same for all models, mine is a 2.5TD?

dont think i will loose any sleep over that, i can gain that performance back by leaving the missus at home ;)

So where is this elusive 2nd drain?
-
i dont even have to worry about drains, i dont want them in the back of my mind wether or not they are sealed properly
my snorkel goes direct to the turbo so no joins to leak
as for filter i use a el-cheapo K&N style one instead of the cone top
to test if its watertight just raise it off tickover to around 900-1000rpm then get someone to put there hand over the intake (just take the snorkel top off) and the engine should stall after all the pipes have sucked themselves in
and no it doesnt kill turbos as rumor goes

As mentioned above, that bl%dy drain cost me an engine also, the plastic part on the inner wing is also in 2 parts and from experience on mine not a very good fit, I will do and would suggest you do as theblueysilverthing has done and go direct, I will also mod my airfilter box and probably move it up higher.
TRUST ME ITS NOT WORTH THE RISK
