My friends 90 will some times start and some times wont.

Tonight i went out to tow him in and we have noticed he has

no brake lights with ign on
indicators some times work...hazards ok
fuel gauge some times work

and when we checked the fuses  the one that does the indicators is the same one as the dash lights ..which work.

we have a spark
can smell petrol when it turning over
but it wont fire, it did the same last night but it started this morning. untill he turned it off in the village.

its a 2. 5 petrol and tomorrow we going to check it in the daylight (its on a D plate)

anyone have any ideals..please help

Earthing problem?  Frequently leads to very strange electrical behaviour.

The battery might be earthed, but I'd suggest he tries to find the earthing point for the electricals in question and redoes that one too.  There's a quick check for earthing problems but I can't remember what it is!

Don't believe what it says on the fuse box cover.  My F plate ex military 90 is wired completely differently to the diagram on the inside of the fuse box.
