Any one else has this
On my 200, When side lights on, with ignition off only the sidelights them selves on the front are on, but when started engine, my headlights get a low voltage feed as well as the normal sidelights
Seems not on all 200 though, checked Ed's and it didn't do it
Annoying as I was trying to take that feed out, but no go up to now

Sounds like the 'Dim Dip' feature.. the Series 2's had it as standard AFAIK... I assume it was an optional extra on the 200s or maybe an aftermarket kit
-
yep it is dim dip under the passenger side kick panle there is a realy you can take it out and disable the system. or just remove the dimdip fuse
-
I've just checked in the manual, and Dim-Dip is listed in there (for UK models only).
My understanding is that its there because it is illegal to drive on sidelights in the UK. By applying a low voltage to the main bulb, it gets around that issue.

Hey Scorpio, are you in trouble mate  it looks like your Discovery is sending an S.O.S.

I thought it was legal to drive on sidelights in a lit-up area!? I don't think it should be though.
-
Thanks guys for that, I will look into it between the rain showers
With Ref to the driving on sidelights, In uk it has been that way, unless the law has been updated, in Europe its a no no, in fact in Germany and prob others if it is raining/snowing/fog, it's the law to drive on dipped headlights

How does one install this dim-dip system :?:
Mine are like Ed's and main lights don't light up.
Is there a way of improving the side lights, 200 ones are naff
-
Try a pair of LED sidelight bulbs

Dim-dip was only a requirement for a few years, part of the '86 vehicle wiring regs perhaps. My '93 Cav had some of the wiring but they were not fitted by then. Bad idea anyway, running Halogens on low voltage shortends their life.
-
My 90CSW-V8 (1988) & 110Tdi (1994) both had 'Dim-Dip', it was a lot safer than using side-lights.
Wondering if a relay kit is available for the Disco?
-
I think the likes of Demon Tweeks sell an aftermarket Dim Dip kit.
-
Had a play with the relays behind nearside panel, no go removal of any of the 3 relays no difference, where one relay should be there are bridging wires, tried them too, no effect
Where would the fuse be for this system, could not identify it on the main fuse block under the steering column
Mind you mine has that much extra wiring its hard to find anything
Cheers Kev

a way to find out which relay it is is to disconnect one headlight bulb and them switch on your lights with your ignition on and the relay will have a dicky fit clicking like hell.

Narva do them. The NZ Narva site reference is below, but you should be able to find them in the UK.
