Driving to the west mids laning trip today..about 1mile from Jcn5 M5...loud bang lots of smoke and loss of power....
So i pulled over had a look, oil pouring out but couldnt see where...put some more in and crawled to the next exit where everyone else was in Maccy D's...further inspection revealed an unhealthy looking block.
Finally got it AA'd home and had another poke...about 3 inch long section of camshaft was sat on the axle guard and it appears to have put a conrod through the block
BTW...still runs! Drove it off the AA truck, up our road and onto the drive...i wonder if it would be more economical as a V6
-
 sorry to hear that.
at least V8s arent hard to come by :)
-
JJ forgot to mention it's his yellow toy that did this. I'm still amazed that it still runs myself. I underestimated the Rover V8 I think...
-
Well im just deciding whether to build another one up or just get one from somewhere else complete, or to stay 3.5 or go bigger, or stay efi or go carbs....oh the options are endless
Yer its the yellow double cab thats gone bang!
-
WE NEED PICTURES :D:D:D:D:D:D:D
-
Not much to see other than a chunk of camshaft and it on the AA truck...everything else is plastered in oil and i cant be bothered to steam clean it today!
-

just went bang...possibly weakened when it overheated and blew the water pump nose seal a few weeks ago...
-
oops

how the hell do you get whats got to be the rear end of the cam shaft out with the inlet manifold in the way?
wow
done a proper job on that!

By dropping out down onto the crank, hitting the conrod(s) and causing a conrod to get pushed out through the block allowing the cam's escape to freedom. :P
-
Not sure what broke first other than it went bang! Still runs but mighty rough and you can feel something knocking through the floor
A few people have already told me im not the 1st either :!:

Ah, double cab, now it makes sense i thought it was a Defender. I'd toyed with doing one the same as that, just to be different. Won't bother now.
