so he did not get it done
any idear what s causing it

its either alright or it isnt!
£500 for something thats ok, very strange.
oil pump could be on its way out, and if it fails when its running, and this you will not know as your light is on all the time, will not repair for anything like £500.
if its just the pressure sensor get a new one in now.
could be idling to low, but i doubt it.
you are playing with fire, and if you dont get it sorted you wil get burnt, very burnt.

the oil light started to come on on our 300Tdi at tickover, changed the sender for about £1.50 ASAP and problem solved.

Mine used to go on and off as I drove, cleaned it and ll been fine since, was shorting out through all the crap

is the sensor in the block or head
try that first

think its on the filter housing :)

My 200tdi did that to me.. first of all i turned the idle up a tiny bit.. But after a while the light started to come back on when the engine was warm.. anyway, it turned out it was the pressure switch that was knackered!
Only a fiver or so and not hard to fit..

i can apreciate everyones reasons for the oil light coming on.
but this could be a knackered engine. and i would walk away from this motor, unless you really want it, then some proper investingation is required.
first thing is to find out if the engine really has got low oil pressure, best way to do this is to unscrew the oil pressure switch and screw in a mechanical oil presure gauge, this should read anywhere from 30 odd PSI on tickover with a warm engine (i know V8 are lower).
if it is then its just a £2 oil pressure switch.
if its not and the engine really is low on pressure, then its gonna be expensive, anything from a faulty oil pump, to a full rebuilt due to a worn engine.
mark.

when was the oil last changed?
and is it the right grade?
