I have been looking at different diesel fuel prices and diesel alternatives, I keep seeing Biodiesel and/or Biofuel advertised about, OK its better for the environment which has to be a good thing but I am mainly looking at it for money saving issues!! Has anyone got any experience in using alternative fuels (legal stuff mind, not kerosine or the red stuff), how hard is it to get hold of, is it really any cheaper, is there anything I can slip in a full tank of fuel on either my Disco or Audi to top normal diesel up (put £4 of super unleaded in my Audi once but that doesn't count!!) Also somewhere near Preston/Blackburn Lancs would be helpful or poss. mail order, I don't mind having to buy 100 litres at once etc. Any ideas????

I run on 100% bio diesel - couple of local places to me, I pay between 68 and 72 p a litre...no messing about with anything - turn up and pay - all legit and duty paid..no noticable drop in power, and only a slight wiff of bbq..1 place is soya based - the other uses rape seed oil..

I was thinking about bio fuels as there are at least 3 or 4 places close to me, but I understand a fuel filter change a couple of times is required after 1000 miles or so.
With that and prices of diesel at 87p litre at asda I coulnt be bothered but if the price goes up I would consider it again.

only need to change once or twice in the first 1000 miles as it acts as a very good fuel system cleaner...and at 68p a litre i'll use it !!
RRC has a 80 litre tank so 80litres @87.9p = £70.32
80 litres @ 68p a litre - £54.40
£15.92 saving on a tank, means I get another 23 .5 litres for the same money :D:D:D:D:D:D
My fuel filters are £2, so well worth the change !!! ;)

Hmmm , Ill see what price the stuff is here, my tank is 80l too.
But my car doesnt have Allegro door handles
Seriously think Ill have another look.

IIRC the nearest suppliers to us are in Burnley and Liverpool
both advertise on a where to buy biofuels website but as i have just installed mozilla i dont have it in my favourites some one will be along shortly with the address as for SVO and WVO they are a great alternative but due to the probs of becoming an oil producer and the inland revinue its difficult to justify going down that road legaly
might even have a chat at the next GLASS meeting

No probs Woody, I am in the lakes with the family when the next meeting is on, but I'm gonna come down for it anyway (sad or what!!) Some prices for the Burnley place would be good if u know?

I have been using Biodiesel for a couple of years now in my old 200. The emissions have been really low since I started with the bio. The only down side is the price it averages about 5p a litre more expensive in my area :(

P.A. at work has just got a focus tdci and she is running that on Bio Diesel from Burnley, 87p a litre I think she said, smells nice on start up, makes me hungry!! She is into all things environment and fair trade anyway but she says she hasn't had a problem with it yet.....tempting!

I'm looking into making my own.

Bez - could I have the contact details for these places? I'm looking for somewhere near to Redditch to start using. If the saving is enough, then I'll drive over and fill up every 2 weeks, rather than topping up locally.
Alternatively - if anyone on here makes the stuff close to me, let me know.
