I have just serviced the Disco which has been interesting in this weather!! Oil change went straight forward as the air filter but got a new fuel filter from Halfrauds, its a Champion one, but it doesn't fit (I think the part number is 111) It seems like the outer rubber gasket is too thick which is stopping the threads getting hold, put the old one back on for now.
Did the performance pump tweak that Budgie kindly posted on a forum the other week, WOW :shock: What a difference, it is smoking now on full boot so when the rain dies down I will wind it back a bit, the dead spot on first set off in 1st gear has gone!! Also bunged a screw in the flexible rubber vacuum pipe coming out of the EGR, my mate used to work for main stealer and he says this does the same as blanking the EGR off altogether??
After off roading the other week I have noticed vibration about 65mph, when I was under the car I noticed that the steering shock absorber thing has a dent in it and the shroud covering the ram has rotted away, could be the problem? I also had a peek at the excessive play in the steering I have, looks like the steering box itself!!
I need to get it on the ramps at work I think and have a good nosey about underneath (I never trust a car until I have had it at least 12 months)
Also noticed that the wire that goes to the top of the oil filter housing had snapped off (low oil warning light I presume?) anyway fastened that back on while I was there.

Prop shaft UJ's (it's clunking a bit!)
Gearbox oil renew
Diffs oil renew
Get aircon re-gassed and find the leak!!
Any comments, suggestions, solutions, hints anything would be helpful!!

Forgot to mention, the diesel pump has an electrical plug coming off it which seems to operate the accelerator, it picks up on the actual rotating part of the pump that makes it accelerate, it has 3 wires coming off it, is my car wired up for cruise control??

No,thats the throttle pot to tell the ecu for the EGR what throttle position its in

Your "steering shock absorber thingy" is a steering damper and if it's bent the it won't be helping.
A new one is about £15-£20 for standard Armstrong one or about £30 for a H/D Procomp or Decarbon.
If there other play in the steering is with the steering box then that can be adjusted using the allan screw on the top of the box with the lock nut on it.
Make sure the wheels are straight and tighten a quater turn at a time until you have about an inch play on the steering wheel.
If you've still got the vibration then it could be cos of the U/J, if not then there is a list of things to look for like, wheel bearings, swivel pin pre-load, track rod ends and bushes. :wink:

Sounds like it might be one of those, I have been out in it today on the motorway and the vibration nearly made me sick!!! I have noticed though that it isn't coming from the steering (the wheel doesn't wobble at all) but the body does, any ideas where to look and how to test things, I don't want to go and spend loads if it is just one thing

Could be a propshaft U/J gone.

If the vibration is through the vehicle that to me says its from the rear wheels.
I had the same problem just beofre xmas and the answer was cheap and easy. 1.5kg of clay that I couldnt see when the wheel was on the disco had stuck to the rim and put it out of balance. was hrrible to drive for 3hours home from the course!!!
Maybe worth checking the tyres off the disco for mud stuck inside and putting it off balance. Its free if nothing else!!

Can't be that, I had the wheels all off to put a new set of pads on after playing off road, I was missing one in the back altogether!
