Title: Home made snorkels?
Post by: Fuddy as muck on January 21, 2007, 18:50:52
After taking the Series wading just below bonnet height a few times lately i'v decided to make my own snorkel. is it just a case of diverting the airbox inlet up the front screen pillar or is there something else needed aswell?

62 mm black plastic drain pipe plus you can get 45 degree bends and clips to mount it. you best of coming out the drivers side wing as you have the heater the other side.

hi
mate, this is what i did,

yer, you need to change the oil bath to a 90 one with is a filter type, I may have one coming up for sale of my one but not deffinate yet as may need for my izusu engine.

Then i just put it up the window screen in piece of downpipe which had then been plastic coated.

Pics below.

hope this helps

you may want to think about putting axle and gearbox and transfer box breathers on as well as then you don't affect the pressures in these components, axles are easy to do.

Hi
I purchased a genuine series snorkel oil bath from the Landrover Orphanage (£49.99) and used 1 long piece of flexi pipe i brought in from a building site in a skip one day.
1. Swap filters
2. cut hole
3. secure with collar (also from ta skip)
4. cable tie in place

Tell me how to add pictures and i'll show you

Regards

Mines already had a transit engine put in so theres no need for me to worry about oil bath filters. Looks like a trip to B&Q is in order this weekend :D Does anyone know of where i can buy some flexi to mate up the 62mm drainpipe?

Go for the genuine filter, so much easier to do, and sits in the same position as he original one.
