-
i think people put them were the tool kit goes under the bonnet
-
think that may be on a TD5?
-
there should be room to do it on a tdi
-
a second bat on a disco tdi or v8 goes where the jack and wheel chock is on the pass side
as for charging, your 300 is a 110 amp alt afink :?
get to new batterys the same and put them in parrellel and jobs a gud un

matt go back sleep

no i been offline for 2 days

I changed the 300 air box to a 200 type and mounted it further back on top of the wheel arch, this leaves plenty of space for the second battery as dan says where the jack usually lives. I also fitted a 100 amp relay to stop any possible drain of the main battery when the engine is off and a dual battery monitor.

I'm about to fit a second battery to my 300 tdi discovery
Because i have a Safari snorkel fitted my air box has no front inlet anymore (inlet is now on the side)
The battery will sit in the space where the jack and chock were (as already said)

Hi,
Sorry to drag something up from the past, but Lyndsey731 what Dual battery monitor did you install in your Discovery may I ask and a year on how have you found it, any problems?
Thanks
-
Hello mate
I fitted the dual monitor from (dare I say it) Scorpion Racing, brilliant piece of kit and no problems.

Thank you very much, ill have a look at their website.

I'm in the process of doing this myself - but with a second alternator as opposed to a split charge system. I've cleared the space in the front by chucking teh jack under teh apss seat and 'loosing' the wheel chock. I'm just having fun and games with my snorkel pipe routing now as I need the space for the battery.....
Problems, problems....
-
Somthing I'm considering also. Keep us updated with how you get on please lads, forwarned of your problems makes my job a bit easier
-
slightly different as mine is a 200 but this is where my yellow top is:

The large relay you can see behind it bolted to the inner wing is a 180amp one and runs the split charge so the optima is only connected to the other battery and charging system when the alternator is actually charging.
-
^^^^^ the very reason why I'm having so much of a drama with the snorkel install - Its a 300 with ABS so space is short and that is the only really viable place to put a second battery. Am also thinking of moving the power steering fluid reservoir a couple of inches to give me some more room..... Winx, I haven't checked on mine yet as its been too dark, but where you have the battery clamp bolts - are they into captive nuts in the plate or have you used 'J' bolts in plain holes?
-
The clamps are threaded rods. The bottom is just a nut either side of the plate. On mine there are pressed holes that I can get my hand through to get a spanner on the nuts underneath.
-
Cheers, I'll have to have a better look at mine at the weekend, I've got 'J' bolts but I may just cut the bend off and thread them to do the same as yours.........
