Hi all, I was advised to get a valve saver kit for my 3.5V8 (on carbs), but it says you need additional components for multipe carbs, which I have now obtained (no thanks to the suppplier of the kit, who were most un-helpful).
I've found a web site with good detailed fitting instructions, but only for a single carb engine.
What i'm after is a manual or advice as to which pipework, if any, can be tapped into between the butterfly valve and the venturi? The manuals for the 3.5 V8 on ebay don't seem to cover the carbs, only engine overhaul.

Please excuse my ignorance, but what is a 'valve saver'?

I've just seen the link in your post. It is my understanding that the Rover V8 will run perfectly well on unleaded fuel so long as you don't want to thrash the living daylights out of it. Certainly, I have never used additives in any V8 I've had and I've never seen major valve seat recession.

oops should have mentioned i run on lpg :oops: . I was told that the gas prevents the valves being lubricated and can cause seat wear/sticky valves. I've also been told that occasionaly running on pertol can overcome this, but i want to be sure i don't cause any more damage (as i have been told there may be some at present).

Fair enough. I have no experience of gas. My wife would tell you I have plenty of experience of hot air though :lol:
I could see it might be a problem because there is no lubricant present.

I've had a closer look and taken the attached pic. I've had a bit of a guess as to what pipe goes where 'n does what. Ideally i would like to tap into one of these with the valve saver. Can anyone shed any light as to which PVC pipe is between the butterfly valve and the venturi? Hope you can make out the text.

Just to [throw it] you off further then, with your VV type carbs you will also need a piston-lifter to prevent the SU piston from lifting up and down as you drive. Without any fuel in to lubricate the needle it will wear rapidly and soon need replacing.
Asd for the valve-saver I'd advise you drill and tap the insert into the inlet as you want the oil droplets to be carried by the air stream and not dragged along the surface of the inlet manifold.

I was hoping i was wasn't going to have to do that, how do you prevent swarf geting in the carb when drilling? I might leave it to someone who knows what the're doing.
Piston lifter? I really need a manual, someone suggested i find an old RRC manual, whatcha think? I've got a diesel defender manual for normal breakables.

better still take off the gas stuff and put it in a skip and run the babe on full fat she will thank ya for it,its a crime running a v8 on lpg.no offence.
