i drove from the new forest last weekend to petersfield... (had to jump start her to get her going) then came back today after 5 days of no running her and truned the key... started turning over whitch got slower and slower until it stopped turning over and all i could hear was the starter motor clicking... any ideas? is the battery knackered? alternator? glow plugs?
cheers Rob
p.s. its a 200TDi 90

Sounds like a dead battery, mine did the same, could start easy with jump leads but if left for more than a day would have to get them out again, so got a new one
-
thank you... now its time to do some mud club reading on batterys and where to ge tthem and whats a good one :)

Hi Rob
Also be aware that if your battery is REALLY flat, there probably wont be enough ooomph to open ths fuel cut-off solenoid, hence no fuel!
This may not be of any help in your current predicament, but something to bear in mind!
Regards from the 'Sunny I.o.W', Chris

cheers chris!
well there is a small amount of charge in it, but not enough to get the starter motor going... i mean it clicks as i said but not enough to start it.
any ideas what a good starter battery is? i know the optima red top... anyo others you can reccomend? and where is the best place to buy?
Cheers again, Rob - from FREEEZING cold petersfield!

normal batterys are around 45-55 quid shop around as prices vary a lot
i get mine trade from j.m.c in newmilton new forest
-
Definatly the battery probably killed by the cold as it has a habit of finishing off "low" batteries.
I wouldnt waste money on facny ones either, just get another standard sealed battery wacked in for peanuts, agri suppliers are quite god i'm told.
-
it doesnt need to be set up professionally or anything does it? just get the new one in right?
Rob
-
new batterys should come fully charged so just put it in make sure its fits propley and make sure the clamp is nice and tight neg first then positave make sure ther tight
some people put a bit of copper slip on the terminals to stop corrosion and away you go
-
thank you
will get one when i get a chance.

Whilst its a good price its more than double a standard battery and having had optimas in the past i think they are over priced for what you get!

Never having used them i can't comment on the quality or performance of them. I, like you, simply stick to HD from agri suppliers. I was Merely pointing out a competitive price.
Hang on..............Don't you have a spare battery at the moment Smo  .
Sorry to see the state of your truck. Hope you get better soon

Hehe, i would have a spare battery but the insurance company are keeping my landy "safe" until we settle up!

I run 2 yellow top as vehicle batterys and a 110amp leisure for auxillary's night heater etc... This lot give me 1500amps cold cranking on the yellow top's alone 8) 8)
-
thanks guys, going to jump her, then check if there is charge coming from the alternator to the battery to check if it is the alternator or the battery. i thought i had a good battery on mine, (BOSCH SILVER) but.... it failed to get my landy started...

Dont forget to check your earths!!!
Most probably is a dead battery but to check its not your earth, run a jump lead from the negative of the battery to the engine block and try again.
-
Make sure the alternater belt is not loose this can draw charge from the battery instead of charging it. I got a battery from craddocks 90amph and i think it was 875 cranking amps 40 somthing pounds. That was a landrover battery. Cold killed the old one.
-
well cold killed this one too. i replaced it today. £40 for a new battery from ym local auto factors including a 2 year warranty :D im a happy bunny, !
i dont think the old battery wass accepting charge cos it would not even star off a jump start!!
