YES, I AM THE PROUD OWNER OF A 2000 TD5 ES,SHE IS IN ROAJA RED
TINTED WINDOWS AND MORE ELECTRIC GISMOS THAN I CAN PLAY WITH.SHE HAS DONE 85.000 MILES AND HAS NOT GOT A MARK ON HER APART FROM A SMALL STONE CHIP ON DRIVERS DOOR :( (YES I HAVE BEEN OVER HER WITH A FINE TOOTH COMB) WASHED AND POLISHED HER 2X AND ONLY HAD IT A WEEK :) I BOUGHT IT PRIVATE AND ON BOTH OCCASIONS 1st TO SEE 2nd TO BUY THE PREV OWNER HAD WARMED HER UP PRIOR MY ARRIVAL.WHEN STARTING UP FROM COLD IF YOU GIVE A LITTLE THROTLE I HAVE NOTICED A LOUD CLATTERY SOUND :!: THAT SOON GOES AWAY AFTER SHE STARTS TO WARM UP :) I AM CONCERNED :( IS IT WORTH A TRIP TO MAIN DEALER?

Might be a heater or injector. One cylinder not combusting properly until it heats up?

Mine does the same from cold, It sounds like loose tappets but then goes
away after a very short time, Maybe it's a common thing or we both have
a problem.
Your new motor looks very very nice, I like the tinted windows too. 8)
Looked nice today parked near the church.

I HAVE A FRIEND WHO ALSO HAS A TD5 2001 :) , ONLY DIFFERENCE HIS IS AN AUTO AND NO NOISE WHEN COLD :?: DO YOU THINK IS IT WORTH GETTING CHECKED OUT :?:
-
Hard to know from a description, but my Td5 always rattled like an old tractor when cold... if you have a friendly LR dealer nearby and are worried... go and see the service manager and ask him to listen to it. He ought to be able to hear whether it is the "normal" Td5 sound.

I don't know how true this is, but I have been told that TD5's essentially start on only 4 cylinders which is why they can be a bit noisy.
Mine certainly rattles first thing and then gets better when warmed up.
-
Only 4 cylinders have glow plugs. I have no idea why. So, I guess the 5th isn't really doing much until it warms up a bit. But surely this would happen pretty quickly, after only a few seconds at most.
I found my TD5 rattled less and ran generally more smoothly after I got it chipped. Good excuse to get it chipped then!

Mine rattles as well, goes after about 500 yards up road.
Worst problem is throttle, get to about third throttle, then a slight touch, and it takes of like a scalded cat, had it checked with TestBook, all ok.
Anyone changed throttle potentiometer before? :?

Not a bad guess at a glow plug then.
It's not even there. Tight beggars.

Had the same thing on my old Cav when the pre-heaters packed up, cranking revs and too much unburned fuel!
It's worth checking to see if your injectors need overhauling anyway, a lot of makes do and it can help with fuel economy and reducing smoke emnissions. Direct injections engines are noisy though, especialy when cold because the pistons don't fit (pistons are usually oval when cold). Add this to the lack of a combustion source (no glow plug) and the Dieseling sound you hear is explainable.
