Title: accident
Post by: hobbit on November 02, 2004, 23:01:49
There i was down the post office, parked up went in, on the way out this guy in a 03 vectra backing into a gap in front of my disco, crack!!!!, oops he backed into my bumper

He sat there for about 30 secs, got out apologised and then said did I do any damage to your car

You knocked some mud off it was all that I could tell him, only nudged it, unfortunately it is a company car, he would have to pay for any damage, he'd broke his o/s rear lens, trouble is its one of those wrap around ones,  :) , ouch, in the end had to show him how to change it, two plastic nuts on the inside, presto one unit off, he was going to the nearest vauxhall place to get one.

He'd only pulled in for a can of coke, that is going to be an expensive can I think :D  :D

Oh dear, how sad, never mind!

He must have misjudged the length of your Disco.

Yes, far too big a vehicle to be driving around town, should be banned (see thread elsewhere)

That's another reason we should be allowed to drive hoofin' great 4x4s around, after all the number of people who just don't see ours coming, if they can't see something this big how the hell would they cope with a supermini?

I got backed into in a pub carpark one friday lunchtime, bloke never said sorry, wouldn't make eye contact or anything so I had to sit at the table with Julie's workmates and take the p*** untill he went into the beergarden. (oh I can be sarcastic)

We see a lot of this at the Hospital.
Obviously a lot of people have other things on their mind, especially if they're coming to see us in A&E & they nudge another car.

We've got a one-way in operation on one serviceroad (well signposted) & people still go down it - it's a 'Blue Light Route'.
I've seen them end up on the kerb avoiding ambulances. One almost hit a Nurse!
Thankfully there was a Traffic Officer walking up who'd come to see a RTA victim.
He certainly had a 'few words' with the driver

It's not a sexist thing, it's spread both ways, but we get people who ask Security & other staff if they can park their cars for them. They don't like the idea of (invariably) reversing into a spot.

If they can't cope making those spatial decisions in a (relatively) limitless time environment, how will they cope if they have to make a split-second decision on the roads whether to;
1. Brake
2. Accelerate
3. Steer left
4. Steer right
5. Carry on the same course at the same speed
6. Any combination of the above

Sadly we see some who can't. Some survive, lots don't

BTM,
Glad to hear that we're not the only hospital that suffers from this sort of
problem.
A+E car parks seem to suffer most, I mean an ambulance is not that obvious, is it :?:  :?:
Minor rant over :x
Cheers,
Paul.

You should have just nudged his car back.  I bet he'd have made eye contact then.

I was a fireman for several years - the highlight of driving stupidity was a lady who drove through a give way sign and hit my fire engine midships on the near side.  Her first sentence (even before I could make a comment about her heritage) was "I don't suppose I could have found anything bigger and easier to see to run in to could I?"  Clowns like that shouldn't even have drivers licences.

On a lighter note maybe, when I had my first Morris 1000 van (yes another one of my many cars!) a Jeep Cherokee ran into the back of it at 30mph. He was looking at the young lady with the skimpy top I had just been looking at previously!!! I had just finished rebuilding the chassis, otherwise it would have crumbled! The van, not the young lady

The van remained driveable after replacing the lights, but it looked a mess. About 2 weeks later, I was waiting to pull out onto a main road. A gap appeared and I moved forward, but stopped again when I thought it unsafe to pull out. The girl behind didn't! She only just nudged me, but you should have seen the look on her face when she thought she had done all the damage

Just been to my local Tesco's tonight,

As i was walking out the door back to the Disco, I noticed it rocking...... :?
As I got closer and crossed in betwen two lines of cars I saw a silver mondeo shunting out of a parking slot opposite to where the Disco was.....the old boy driving it then hit the rear bumper again, causing the rocking motion I had seen from the shop door way.......(twice now) As I got closer the old boy again shunted his f**d and again hit the rear bumper (3x) Could it get any better.................

As I reached the rear of the car parked next to me, The old boy got out and had a look at his rear body panels and bumper, now cracked and carrying black paint from my bumper......got back in his car looked at me and

Drove off.......................................

I jumped into the Disco and gave chase..........I followed him all the way back to his house, about 4 miles.............I watched him pull onto his drive and then also pulled onto his drive.........He got out and was about to have a go at me, when it must have registered that this was the same Disco he had just hit in Tescos car park.........

I asked him if he wanted another go at hitting it............(sarcastic head
 on) ?
I asked him why he didn't leave his details on my windscreen.?  He's reply was that he hadn't caused any damage to my car.............

I told him I was going to report him to the  PC Plod for his actions...
I didn't do it because after checking the rear bumper I found only a 5mm x 10mm mark in the paint..............on the other hand he will need a new rear lower panel and a spray job to remove the marks in his boot panel and bumper.............

It is said that fire engines being red actually makes them a bit harder to make out, hence around here, the front of them is actually painted white.

Still, running into it is still a stupid thing to do.
