I subscribe (http://www.magazine-group.co.uk/magazine-group/categories/motoring/page_2/3048/total-off-road.thtml?hx=categories). It's not the easiest to get hold of anywhere.

It annoys me that newsagents don't get the copies in especially as they are on a SOR bet it's one of the McColl group you were getting it from

One of the problems I see with subscribing is the fact that the mag never gets in the shops for people to find it to subscribe to it

I have one shop only that stock TOR locally and that's an independant shop,he is also the only guy that sells one of my radio mags. I used to subscribe to LRO and as you say get it a few days earlier but then noticed my local SPAR got it on the shelf the same day i got it through the letterbox.

Yes anyone on this forum can do that and I've posted the link before but what about the guy in the street that's just bought a 4x4 and wants to get it muddy?

OK for Landy owners I guess but for non landy owners? in a shop nothing

I bought my first copy of TOR 150 miles away from where I live and never saw it in the following year in the local shops the second copy came from the same shop a year later!

This is what I mean

To sell something you have to advertise it by showing it and with Tor it's not being done

The problem is, probably, at least partly due to it being published by a relatively small company which doesn't yet have the distribution deals that the likes of IMAP have. In fact i seem to recall Shazana mentioning as much when I met her a couple of years back.

I'm sure that they would love to have the magazine in every shop.

Perhaps once Waterways World gets it's website up and running properly, as the new editor is planning, they can go on to get a web presence for TOR.

Did you know in order to get a magazine onto the shelves of WH Smiths, you need to bung them a significant one-off quantity of cash (seriously), then demonstrate you can hit the sales figures, only to have your title on sale or return anyway.

If this is one of the big retailers, you can bet that others are equally 'detrimental' to the smaller magazines (and knowing people who are launching a mag currently, it's not an uncommon practice). This is per title as well, not per publishing house!

TOR is still a small circulation mag, but how do you get out in the public arena without paying off all the big retailers / suppliers? I don't know the answer, but a good web presence and word-of-mouth are likely to be a good start.

Cheers

News agent opposite Wakefield bus station stocks T O R.
Failing that the BP garage on Bradford road East Ardsley, or the post office East Ardsley both stock it.
