I'm black and blue after shifting two axles. I picked them up from a guy off ebay. Took three of us to get them into the back of the 90 (they still had trailnig arms and shocks or springs on)...
At the other end I managed to get them out on my own, the rear was pretty straight forward, but the front felt more heavy and awkward, with a system of ratchet straps and jacks I lowered it out of the back!
How heavy is your typical axle?
I also now have a spre rear axle if anyone is interested!

I did a swap on a salisbry drum axle on a 93 defender. I managed to get it out of the landy on my own but it weight a ton!! no idea how heavy it was in Kg's
-
A defender complete front axle is about 125kg IIRC, excluding radius/steering arms etc..
It was a long time ago since I weighed one, so I could be mistaken.
Fronts are heavier, due to the swivels and steering hubs.

sheesh, so with the radius arms, the pannard and the shocks that was quite something to shift it on my own.... I'm still knackered and have quite a few cuts and bruises :-(

I remember when I picked up the salisbury in me old series 3. Arrow Landy services in Doncaster kindly put it in with a forktruck, hooking one drum over the bulkhead. I drove home, then me n my dad sat there looking at the bloody heavy thing wondering how the hell it was coming back out
-
I used a jack to lift it over the bulk head and then yanked the other end whilst having some straps making sure it couldnt go to far in one go.. I think it took me about an hour to get both out!

bl00dy heavy
got a few lying round here and its at least a 2 man job to move them other than sliding them short distances on a smooth floor.

aye well - didn't want the young lady getting dirty... besides she was on the phone. also lugging stuff isn't her forte.
I ache a bit today for sure, still managed a lunch time game of badminton though :)

The guy i got it from has a few more sets - do you want his number? If you do go down theres something else I'm after off him anyway so we could go up there together - he's got about 4 barns full of stuff! He's jut outside high wycombe.
