Post by: Bob696 on February 07, 2007, 17:35:24
Its 6.35pm (ish), there is not a cloud in the sky or flake of snow on the ground and ALL Dudley schools will be closed tomorrow

Wimps and wussies

Has someone moved the Greenwich Meridian then?

Apparently one firm we deal with has told their employee's that if they don't turn up to work tomorrow they'll be docked a days holiday

Streuth this is a real 'when I were a lad' stuff isn't it? I can remember the winter of 64 when we were frozen for weeks on end and I walked across the Thames at Windsor and I don't recall teh schools closing at all. We had to wrap up warm mind.

For goodness sake we might get 5cm of snow - in real money 2 inches and the country comes to a standstill.

OK if I don't have to travel I won't but surely we can cope with a piddly snowfall.

Makes me see red.

Mike

Does it show that I haven't had a very good day?

I think I'm getting old.

I remember a winter of 198(something) when we were living in a caravan at the time (parents were renovating an old bard).  One nights worth of snow was enough to mean we couldn't get out of the caravan to go to the outside bog.

We still made it to school, walking home after the snow plough had been through leaving 10' high walls of snow on the side of the road.

Definately "when I were 'lad"  :D

Lucky [!Expletive Deleted!] those children are.  I never got a day off from poor weather at school... even if the place was at freezing temperatures we still had to go in and wore coats and warm clothing and the day went on as normal.

I can remember the winter in the eighties. I was about 12 and had to dig a tunnel from the back door to the coal bunker to get coal in for my mother before I went to school, then walked to the bus stop through drifts high enough for us to walk on the roof of at least one car!
Then waited for the bus that was on time and it took us to school where 90% of the teachers made it too. I think the only reason we had a day off in bad weather was if the school boiler broke down.
  Wouldn't happen today!

Right. I had to get up in the morning at ten o'clock at night half an hour before I went to bed, drink a cup of sulphuric acid, work twenty-nine hours a day down mill, and pay mill owner for permission to come to work, and when we got home, our Dad and our mother would kill us and dance about on our graves singing Hallelujah.

 :(biggrin):  :(biggrin):  :(biggrin):
