Title: scumbags and paypal....the same thing
Post by: wingnut_MMC on February 07, 2007, 18:25:28
i payed for a beemer 5series for 200.00 thru paypal and i was going to pick it up on saturday, i got an email from the bloke saying that the payment was being held by paypal pending investigation.
it turns out that the scumbag <edit> that bought my alloys off my old escort had used funds obtained by fraud, hence paypal limiting my account because i had accepted the payment, so now im 200.00 and a set of 17" alloys skinter, ive contacted paypal and all they said was 'its not our problem, its up to you to make other arrangements to pay for the BMW'

how <edit> is that!?

because i sold them outside ebay i havent got a leg to stand on.

ive now got a shogun which has just been sold, i gotta wait for the money tho and no beemer, today couldnt get much worse.
thanks to the scumbag <edit> im without transport for the not so distant future, untill i save up for another car or fix the old shogun up for road use.

WARNING TO ALL....paypal is a good idea but the backup you get from them is <edit> <edit>

i'm sorry if ive gone off on one but im well <edit> off!

the backup on both ebay and paypal is indeed [!Expletive Deleted!]. i've had no end of problems, mainly with ebay, and i never get anywhere. they simply copy and paste the emails and make up a fake name to finish it with.... they actually admitted that much!

I often say to myself when using ebay that it's just a glorified car boot sale where you can't see what you're buying. It's a gamble that can be worth it, but equally quite the opposite.

It's all good and well me saying this now

I think buying off a fellow MCer would be a much safer bet.

I must be missing something here, not unusual.  :?

If the payment for the BMW has been held by Paypal then it's not gone through so you still have it. Can't you just give the guy cash for it and stop the Paypal payment either through Paypal themselves or through your credit card?
Then, at least you have a vehicle.

As for the alloys, if the money used to pay for them was fraudulently (sp)obtained by the buyer then do you have his address? Have passed the info onto the police? Has Paypal given you the details of the said fraud in writing so you can pass that onto the Police?
I'm no legal person but surly obtaining items by deception is an offence isn't it?

i dont have enough cash at the mo as i dont get paid till the end of the month, the bloke who had the alloys was a member of a forum i used to be a member of, he came to get the alloys himself, i went on and asked who he was on the forum and he only joined 2 days before he took the wheels, he not been on since, the police dont wanna know.
i suppose its because the alloys werent speeding or parked illegally, i dunno.
paypal have given me an email but its a little bit vague to be homest i just gotta wait and see what happens, ive been told that it can take upto 30days for things like this to be sorted out.

i would love to go get the beemer with cash but all my money was tied up in paypal, and i dont have a credit card.

I think I get the picture now, not good.  :(

Any way you can pay for the BMW using smaller payments so it doesn't take you over the limit Paypal have set?
So if they set a £50 limit just pay him £50 four times.

Also check with Paypal about what happens to the original payment if the seller can't wait and decides to resell the car and leave you neg feedback.

Hang on have Paypal kept your £200 as well then? or was this the money from selling the alloys you left in your payapl account? I never sell things with apyapl, I don't like the idea of someone else being in that much control of my money.
