Mine's a Defender 90 with side tank & according to the Haynes manual, its capacity is 55 litres. (Approx 12 gallons)
Last year I went to the Alps in my motor & when I filled up on route, I actually managed to get 55 litres in it so I must have been running on empty. :)
I can only think that the capacity is slightly more allowing for the filler neck & tube, but probably only a litre or so.
