Removed the intercooler pipes today - the top one in particular was narrowed by around 3mm alround by the crud left from when the EGR was fitted. Removed the Intercooler and flushed it with parrafin (yuk)
I now have these nice shiny pipes:

Tweaked the fuel pump slightly and WOW what a difference! -my wife said she was struggling to keep up in her focus TDCi and there was little or no smoke!
The bottom pipe gets slightly warm, but the top pipe is ice cold with the standard (clean) intercooler!
-
need to do it on ours to be honest, i reckon it could do with a good clean! need some new hoses though too, probably just save up for some silicone ones. our turbo hoses are a bit like balloons...
-
Shiny as it is that top pipe needs lagging. Wasn't the one you binned covered in dense foam? otherwise with the bonnet shut the ippe will get warm and defeat the object of having an intercooler.

thats not much different to a non egr top pipe, thay are just a plain silicone hose
Oh & the intake pipe will be cold no mater what,
mines is ice cold after a run

The standard top pipe is two short hoses and a black metal pipe and isn't lagged at all - I'd guess the shiny stainless steel pipes will dissapate the heat under the bonnet better than the old ones.

CWK, they look really good, if you gave the engine bay a good wash off it would look like a nice chavved up engine bay with all those shiny bits!! So does flushing the intercooler out with parafin really work?? If so I may do it with mine to try and get a bit more oomff outta my turbo.
Cheers

As I flushed the intercooler and changed the pipes at the same time it's hard to say. The parrafin went in clear and came out looking like engine oil, so I guess the clean out can't do it any harm. I reckon the biggest gain is getting rid of the crusted top pipe. When I had my headgasket done the mechanic said my bottom end (ooh err!) was in excellent condition. He gave the head a light skin and a damn good clean and pressure tested it. So my intake system is as new now and it makes a world of difference!

The best thing for the turbo 'sound' is the snorkel!
The mantec on the disco is almost all metal so if you wind the passenger window down you can hear it a treat - does get a bit tiring after a while (old git)
-
i intend to get a full size cooler ;) just got other slightly more important things to sort first!
our snorkel is all metal except for the bits of tube to join it together ;)

I'll be flushing the intercooler out at the weekend then. Just wondering if you don't mind telling me where you got your intercooler pipes from, the top one especially?? :?

I was wondering that aswell Tom, the hoses are the same for the 200 and 300's aren't they.... well, they're not as standard, but the 300 ones will fit a 200 won't they??
