Hi all
I have a Rangy V8 engine thats not been started for a few years, so I'm looking to prime the oil pump before starting.
I've heard of a priming pump that pushes grease or some such in do do this?
Has anyone heard of this? and know where to get one?

petrolium jelly (vasiline)open the pump and pack it in

Yeap, take the cover off the oil pump, one of the gears will drop out, then pack it with vasaline and push the gear back in, there's no such thing as using too much here. Belt and braces, take the dizzy out and spin the oil pump drive with an old screwdriver in a cordless drill (not too fast) to build up oil pressure to the galeries before starting and/or turn it over with the plugs removed 'till the oil light goes out.

P.S. if you drain and refil the oil before you start it the cam will get oiled then.

Thanks for that guys, I did think about the "manual" way, but wasn't sure about the success, so I'll go that route now, also the tip about drain and refil, excellent :)

i would just remove the coil HT lead and turn ity over with the starter. you might find the oil pump doesnt need priming if theres a little oil sat in their.
turn the engine over untill the oil light goes out, reconnect lead and jobs a goodun
