Im looking for a h/d winch bumper, for my 300 tdi disco, for the option of fitting the winch a bit later on,
do i either go for a tubular one or not, mm cant decide, and wheres the best place to get it from, is there a chance of some pics of yours too?
cheers
Martin

How long is a peice of string? Tubular ones stand out a bit, look different but I suspect they are often made of tube because it's easier than making a profiuled one that looks right and close to original.
-
get a hi level tapered one - they look best IMV

Agree 100%.... tapered/hi-level definately look the best.
-
I said tubular, but then read its for a disco not a defender....so i'd go for somthing like the Devon 4x4 tapered "standard" style one for a disco, but defenders look ace with tubular :)
-
here... go check out devon4x4.com tapered bumper photos... they look great.

hi level/tapered where would i find a piccy of one of them? just to see what they look like, thanks for your replies so far,
was looking at one of these ,but people say they look tacky
-
i like them devon ones TRUG2 i like them where its fabricated to cover the sides of the wings up, and it looks a professional finish too !!
-
If it's First FOur it should be well made. Will look quite butch on a highly modded Disco, but stick that on the wife's car and it will look out of place. Horses for courses.

Yeah... tubular "definately" dont look as good as tapered. Tubular make the vehicle look weak/cheap (no offence meant to anyone who's already got tubular on a Disco... just my opinion).
-
true RRB, with mine not having any mods on it at all,(yet) and i wont be doing that many, tyres/snorkel/ maybe a lift, but deff winch and bumper.
like the look at this one as well trug2

Out of the two, I prefer the non-tubular. At some point I want a winch on mine, nothing too major, and quite like the look of the Bearmach winch mount, to fit just below the original bumper. Not been able to find anywhere online yet that stocks em though to get an idea of price. Do like how they look though, personally prefer the aesthetics of the standard bumper over those of a winch bumper, but that's just me!

looking at this i might go out and start hammering all the tubes in the yard square

This is my hubby's. He got it from here (http://www.paidia4x4.com/)

Tubular ones tend to be weaker.
I'd go for a D44 tapered one
Super strong and great looks

Spoken like someone with an interest there Jake

I must admit that I preferred the tubular ones up to the normal bumpers until I saw the tapered, that would be my choice. THe only other thing going for the tubular is theprice, if the tapered were the same price as a tubular that would be what I buy when I have the funds
-
check out bullfrog i think he has made a bumper for a disco

I've seen quite a few cheaper ones been destroyed now
It pays to buy quality products
I wouldn't want to be winched out of a nasty hole, worrying if the bumper and recovery eyes will hold
-
what sort of money are these tapered winch bumpers?
have to say, more i look the more i like em, but do still prefur the tubulars.
-
got a tubular on the disco [guardian] had lots of use
still in one piece and nothing bent just needs a repaint.
Abuse any bumper and you will get damage.
-
the ones from devon4x4 are £380, im not saying tubular ones are cheap quality or anything, but strength wise surely the tubular ones have more welds or i might be wrong
i have seen a package , tapered bumper and 9500 winch complete for £480+postage
not the site i was looking at , but prices seem ok

right ive decided to go for a h/d bumper, and steering guard, not a winch bumper and winch as funds are going on wheels and tyres, and after several days of thinking , if i do go anywhere it will be in a group and not on my own, so where is the best place to get a non tubular bumper from?
-
the best place will definately be without question here
but in about a month. :(
got these tapered type jobbies on the go. :)
will be 8mm winch trays and mountings then folded 5mm sheet bumper, will take some bustin.
will let you all know when they are available. :D

Hi Guardian.
What kinda price for the bumpers?

I could do a 3 1/2" tubular one wit A bar, recovery and jacking points with waterproof radio remote 12000Lb winch for £600 delivered.
Check the site for styles and specs.
Mine are bespoke not clones or copies .
-
Hi BullFrog.
I have a 12000lbs winch, just need a bumper.

hopefully about 300 squid, hopefully less, just depends on the laser costs of the profiling.

what do you guys think of these, as you know i was going to hold back on a winch and bumper till i got the tyres and stuff sorted, but these seem a pretty good price when you look at the price of a standard heavy duty unit, i could always get the winch later on if i want one !! :?
