First car I had use of was a 1.0 Metro L. My dad bought it for me to learn to drive in, but I preferred the looks of a Fiesta. The first one registered in my name was a 950 Fiesta Pop Plus which I drove for 13 years and absolutely loved. HWTHMBO learned to drive in it as well. I've still got it - it hasn't been anywhere for about a year and is now a long-term 'project'.

a 1968 Series 2a :)
I've only ever owned anything with green ovals on, and never owned a pair of green overalls, or green wellies, well, not entirely true, I had a pair of green wellies, but they had little fogs eyes on them and I was around 6, so I should be forgiven that one...

1982 for escort XR3 in black, was a beast but just a little bit rotten

Mine was a Vauxhall Astra Mk1................heavly modified with RUST
-
1956 Ariel Colt 200cc was my first vehicle. Cost me £45. Nine weeks wages as an apprentice toolmaker. First car was a 1960 Reliant Regal saloon with 750cc side valve engine.
-
My first car was a 1964 Triumph Herald modified with disc brakes and Ford Escort 1600 sport cross flow kent engine with high lift cam and four branch manifold.
The body was a two seater spartan, soft-top sports car, it had alloy wheels, and a tow bar.
This was bought in 1997 and would have cost me £750 to insure I feel sorry for the new drivers who have to pay £2000 for a fiesta!!!
Unfortuantely it was too rotten so I gave it away a year later!
and had to make do with a rustin metro which wet through two engines and several engine mounts and sub frame mounts in the time I had it it had Over size alloys and a 2" lift!! which made handling really tight, articulation was not bad, but it gave up the ghost on a roundabout when the axle king pins sheared and front wheel came off.
All good experiance though.
-
1982 for escort XR3 in black, was a beast but just a little bit rotten

Talbot Sunbeam 1.6S.
I always fancied a Lotus Sunbeam
(do you remember that naff TV advert with Petula Clark singing about 'Put a Little Sunbeam in Your Life'?)
-
1984 Volvo 340GLE All my mates had tiddly little 1.0l cars and I had a HOOOGE 1.7L engine
Shame the car also weighed twice as much as my mates cars.
-
My first car was actually the 1980 2CV6 I learnt to drive in, and then was given a year or so later. Think "For Your Eyes Only", but right hand drive, and less dents on the bonnet :D
I'd owned a couple of cars of my own (mini, Chevette) before getting my hands on it again, but it was great to get the yellow peril back after the Chevette was scrapped.
Probably got some photos somewhere of when Mum had the 2cv before I got hold of it but they're early 80's, so I'll spare her the embarrassment of her fabulous perm being all over the internet
Cheers
Ben

mines was a 90... Loved it to bits... cost me £100 from my uncle, did me a year untill i rolled it.....
-
y reg mk 1 fiesta - i loved that car strated first time and went anywhere, but alas like most 18 year olds i wrote it off, driving back from scotland at the end of a work placement for my degree - id worked till 4 in the morning then got in the car at 6 and started driving home and alas fell asleep somewhere around peterborough,
the upside was the guy i hit had no insurance so i didnt claim on that one and plus by the time i arrived home daddy dearest had aquired a d reg 309 which was a big plus cos i could get my fishing tackle in with no worries
god i love my dad, however he may have been a little selfish in his descision as the nature of my degree involved really early mornings and late nights plus the fact it was a 70 mile round trip to college and random timings so i think he did it for the sake of his sanity
-
I had 2!! A 1983 Escort 1.3L with full XR3 kit and wheels (sad I know) and my 1971 VW beetle 1200 which was lowered, had dragstar wheels, 1960's wings and headlights, 1641cc engine with twin 40 weber carbs, metallic dark purple/red, and yes I do miss it, had it for 8 years but got offered £2K for it with no MOT, no tax, engine barely running (exchange 1200 lump as my 1641 ceased up!!), I couldn't say no to that kind of money, plus it meant I could buy the Porsche
-
First vehicle Vespa Sprotique scooter-150cc. First car 1961 Ford Anglia good car but a constant battle against rust!
-
1980 Ford Escort 1.3 Estate in Beige. Still got it (needs work).

-
Mine was a Triumph Dolomite 1.6, paid £500 for it and 10 months later part ex'd it for £600 :D
Not sure how much I spent keeping it on the road though :?
-
Hi,
learnt to drive in my first car - a morris maxi (advertised as the car that you could put a double mattress in the back of  )
drove it until it died - you could tell the regular travelers in it - they held the choke out saving me the trouble of putting the peg on it.
it was an M reg (i think this makes it a 1973 vehicle) and i had it in 1984
regards
ela

1982 for escort XR3 in black, was a beast but just a little bit rotten

This was like my first, a Vauxhall Victor.
I don't remember when it was built, but it cost me £20.
I was 17 at the time and we used to buy 4 gallons of petrol and get change from a quid, those were the days.
-
Mine was a Morris Marina 1.3 (NLM 381P) it was colour marroon, and every time you put it in reverse the gear stick use to come out.
Got rid of it for a 1.3 dark blue Ford Cortina (BDS 542S) and on tickover it use to wobble badly.
-
First vehicle with 2 wheels was a 1980 Suzuki TS100
First vehicle with 4 wheels was a 1973 VW Camper van, Westfalia conversion.
First 4x4 wasa a 1992 Daihatsu Sportrak.
First car I wrote off, a Jaguar XJS when I was 17. Wasn't even mine, belonged to a customer of the hotel I worked in at the time. I totalled it moving it round to the carpark.

-
if thats fully comp its cheap for someone your age, when i had my mk 1, 950cc fiesta it cost me £1800 third party !!!, and here i am 11 years later and i now pay £250 per year fully comp
-
My first back in 1966/67ish was a Ford Thames 100E van, a sought after classic now, but just a cheap old banger (deathtrap) then. I spent more time fixing it than drivng it, come to think of it 40 or so motors later and nothings changed much. Although I spose now the fixing is more for fun than necessity.
-
Mine was a Morris Marina 1.3 (NLM 381P) it was colour marroon, and every time you put it in reverse the gear stick use to come out.
My Vitara does that, ask anyone that was at Eastnor :)
-

-
Yellow Vauxhall Viva with a black vinyl roof, the lights used to go out if you hit a bump it was best to have a mate with you to hold the switch in place.
-
This was like my first, a Vauxhall Victor.
That's an F-type Frank, they look good when either concourse, or built into a street-racer, have a look at the 3rd picture on on thispage (http://www.drcreview.com/news.asp?art=115)
MICK
When she was about 18, SWMBO had a 'S' plated (yellow) Viva until she 'killed it'.
-
Mine was one of these, same colour, but older with a split windscreen 1956 model. Cost me £9 Yes nine pounds, and it was taxed and MOTd when I bought it.

My first bike (at 16 years old ) was a suzuki ap50, p plate 1976. I went from Redditch (near Birmingham) to weston super mare on it and it took 3 hours. Them were the days, not restricted to 30 mph and my ap50 would do 55 mph.
First car (at 17 years old) was a hilman hunter 1725 GT which i brough for £175. This cost me £200 to insure tpft the day after i passed my test. Ok £200 is not much today but then it was just over 4 weeks take home pay for me.
