One of these..... 8) 8)

And your thoughts about the Transit powered Defender?
-
HAHA its still has the vents
-

Possibly more reliable??

Oh yeah just noticed so have they decided to keep them or do you think they're just using up yhe last of the Td5 bulkheads
-
HAHA its still has the vents
They stated the imprint of the vents would still exist, but no vents would actually be fitted and operable.
-
They dont open do they?
-
i want a pair of those side repeaters! :P

I used to burn out transit engines about three times a year one of the reasons I no longer buy fords
So I can't say they are more reliable
-
that bonnet would look good on my 90
-
Well it has working vents and a TD5 under the bonnet bit's glued to the dash etc.. it's rare it's a prototype... 8) 8)
-
Sounds more like a mock-up rather than a fully functioning prototype then.
-
Just telling you what it said on the delivery note... Who am i to argue???
-
dont like that bulge. looks gay!
edit - also, as much as you dont see many transit vans broken own, you also dont hear many that dont sound like a tin of nails

after having a transit in at work the other day and talking to the local ford dealer i hope land rover's warranty dept has even more lines added to there helpline??? :? :?
-
can't say im to keen on the bonnet either :?
-
sounds promising... well done ford, ya bunch of prats! the way im looking at it is, transits get hammered.. and usually last it out, but end up a heap of [!Expletive Deleted!] in the process. now a land rover gets hammered, but in a whole new world of hammering in comparison.......
are we gonna find bits of ford transit engine blocking the way on our greenlanes? :?
ps. yes yes i know, the people that buy the new ones are less likely to take them off the tarmac... but it could happen one day!
-
now arnt these 2.4 ford engines bad on clutches ???
or have the brainless land rover boffins overcome this ??
or have i been daydreaming again

I drive a transit fully loaded at 3500kg very often and the loud pedal spends most of its life well and truley burried its now 4yrs old and has done about 195thousand miles with no trouble at all,Oh apart from when i accidently changed down from 5th to2nd instead of 4th by mistake and the rear diff went pop

haha, i can imagine that now!!   BUT the question is......
...does it sound like a tin of nails? :P

Don't get confused about the engine going in the new model. Ford has recently developed a new engine for the Mondeo and Transit. This is the very same engine that's going in the Defender.

oh right, that makes it all better then?

That bulge is just crying out to be attacked by a jigsaw some mesh and a tube of no more nails :D

which would be........
.....you guessed it?......
......wait for it........
......gay! i HATE it. its not a defender with that swolen "i've banged my bonnet on a tree" bulge

Do you drive a citroen saxo and hang about on retail parks at night with a sunbed glued to the underside and a squillion watt stereo in the boot of it?

nope, i just think a bit of scoopy thing would look a damn sight more purposeful than a bloody bulge
and my 90 dont go on the road never mind retail parks it dont even have all the lights it started with and sterio? i do have a 3" exhaust
(thats its total length btw  )

I assume from that you mean that it would be remarkably jolly in a hap hazard fashion, sort of up beat in a chirpy kind of way ?
Since English is for the most part gender-neutral as far as languages go it is rather difficult to percieve what else you could mean ...
On a serious note, can we watch the language guys ? there is another thread I'm keeping my eyes on with a variety of derogatory phrases and words which should be frowned upon "won't somebody think of the children"
As for the inclusion of the "power buldge", I can't say I'm all that fond of it, but then again as an alternative to cutting a big hole in it, or what was possibly on the plans (i.e. slamming the bonnet till it dented itself enough to fit) it's probably an improvement.
As for engines, well, Ford are under increasing pressure to meet the new emmissions requirements, and I dare say feel something of a moral obligation to shy away from the BMW entines which currently occupy the hole (even if it's simply to one with oil pumps that stay fitted) so I guess they had to do something.
The question of reliability does come up, but, how anyone can criticise ford for producing naff engines when it's going into the vehicle the 2.5TD was for is beyond me.
The vents are a valid concern if that's your sort of thing, but the aircon models have had a sealed dash, or at least it didn't have any holes in it and the vents were just glued to the top, they might keep up with that tradition for a while ...
Alternatively, it will finally give you somewhere to stick the belgium national windscreen sticker :) which, as you might not know is too long for a 90/110 and too straight for a discovery / rangie ...

Why?
When mine arrives it will get properly muddy and used. Perhaps we could meet up and see how long your chassis takes to snap in half?
The Duratorq engine is a Transit / Jag Diesel hybrid, I understand. Much more Transit than Jag, but well noise insulated i understand. With the 6th gear the motorway engine flogging should be a thing of the past too 8)
-
the transit duratorque engine is very good imho.
my van spends most of its life fully loaded, and after 200K miles it still drives like new, no smoke or owt
we have had four new trannys now, and with a collective (abused) miles of about 650k miles we've only killed one engine. and ford fixed it under warrenty.
-
That's music to my ears mark.yellow.series.3, because the new Beast will be no show pony!
I'll write a full review when the chaps at Solihul get their fingers out

same reason 90% of new range rovers and discovery 3's arent used off road! although its good to hear that yours will be an exception!
we'll gladly meet up for a good thrash though :D
anyway, the 6th gear is something that i reckon they've done right... would be handy! only current solution is overdrive really, which would help and i would like to fit, but costs a bit much!
