Driving back from Aberystwyth tonight, the sodding speedo needle started to jump about, then registered zero mph for many miles, and occasionally started working then jumping about, ad infinitum.
Obviously needs a new cable, how difficult to replace on a Disco?
and...
The sodding LPG stopped working, seemed to run out of gas, yet I hadn't done enough mileage to use up all the gas, after refill (only 25 litres). there was obviously LPG still in the tank. This has happened twice now, so am I looking at some sort of tank valve seizure that needs replacement?
Or could I have knocked/disturbed something doing the core plug?
Last week it was a core plug, which caused premature replacement of the exhaust, I really don't need this happening all at once, but as Sod's Law seems to be operating, I'm waiting for something else to fall off.
Jeez, why do we love these motors?

Your speedo might be through a transducer depending on the year. It's a 10 minute job to change and on the RRC it's located on passenger side chassis rail, just to the rear of the axle.
I know RRC's were fitted with this as our 1994 model has. Not sure if it was included in Discos or when it stareted if it was.

Never had that happen, and the system has been fitted since March 1999, I suspect a sticking valve on one tank (two underslung), which would make my range limited, which it is.
Funny thing is, it'll start after, then appear to run out of gas again, so I suspect the stuck valve isn't giving a complete seal.
Re-filling the tanks makes the problem go away until I've used a part of my range, then the problem returns as before.

On a Disco get underneath and look up between the handbrake drum and the transfer box. There is (if its electronic speedo) a wire going into a plug, unplug and clean the contacts.

On the RR the electronic speedo came in with the hot wire EFi. Early models had mechanical speedos and a split cabel with the transducer, the top half of the cabel was dropped with the intorduction of the electronic speedo. R380 gearboxs have the transducer bolted direct tot he box though.
The same speed signal inputs to the EAS, cruise and EFi.

That's the change on Disco's too, the 200 Series had the LT77 with a cable speedo, the R380 fitted to 300's from '94 on have the transducer :wink:

Im having a very similar issue. But my gas dumped its load all at once. As i have a BRC system its a royal pain in the butt to find someone to fix it. But i think the consensus is that its down to sticking valves. Bloody annoying.
I looked on ebay last night for some spare tanks. these sill tanks like the ones i have showed pressure gauages on. Now i cant see mine so im assuming if they did have them they would be on top beneath the floorpan.
Who knows. Best of luck fixing it though mate. Maybe if you get it fixed you could pm me with a solution.

To work properly the sender mounting ring should be at 45 degrees on the top hlaf of the tank. Each tank must have one as the sender contains a float that closes the inlet off at 80% fill, to maintain what's called Ullage or breathing space in the tank.
