Title: Steaming headlight
Post by: chris.hunt22 on February 13, 2007, 09:34:00
Just a quick one but not 4x4 related (its a quattro though??)

My Audis (A6 2.5Tdi Quattro Sport) o/s headlight has started steaming up badly, it only started when I was lazy before Christmas and pressure washed it, The headlight is plastic but they are Xenon headlights, I have thought about drilling a tiny hole somewhere in it but I don't want to make it worse or for the headlight to get full of muck.  I have never touched Xenon headlights before but I have been told they are expensive, any one got any suggestions, could I just replace the lamp body without the actual Xenon bit?

If you kill the lamp unit you are looking at about £80 just for the bulb unit.

I would have a word with a main dealer as they are usually OK or hunt down the Number for AutoTechnic in Totton, Hants and give them a bell as they know their stuff. I really wouldnt drill it as a high power halogen or HID buld will explode on contact with water and a small leak is not likeley to fill the thing with water as a hole.

It will eventually clear but it may errode the reflector.

Get the wife to dry it out with her hair dryer
I had to remove the bulb from that heap of a celica i had, then persuade the ex to use her dryer to get rid of moisture in the light unit.

Cant you take the whole headlight out and stick it in the airing cupboard over night  to dry out. Thats what i used to do with mine before it went for mot.

I had that prob with a driving lamp constantly fogging. But putting 100W bulbs in cured that problem.
