Jap Discos were badged as county but might not be only that market
Check the V5 to see if its an import - date of first registration will be different from date of first reg. in UK if it is - although it wont tell you where its from
If it is VERY clean underneath then its a good chance it will be a Jap
There wont be any insurance issues since it was built in this country and should have a UK vin no. - ie sall.............................

If its in as good a condition as my P38 and the price is right then go for it
I still can't get over the condition these Jap imports are in when they hit this country
I was the first owner here with mine so it is now "enjoying" it's first Scottish winter - you know, salt on the roads, constant rain/snow etc. !
Even if the Disco has been here for two winters it should still be streets ahead of UK cars condition wise and if looked after will last for ages
I seriously don't think I could ever justify buying another one that has spent it's life here
Japan has a blanket 50 mph speed limit and they all appear to be well looked after - very few have tow bars and the majority have low mileage too

Mind you, it's all very well me saying it will last for ages - if you DO buy it , it will probably be up for sale in about six weeks with your track record !

£1250 for a state of the art multi point with torriodal tank in the spare wheel well, oh and a couple of weekends

If you go for a cheaper tank than it will obvioulsy be less.

Jane paid £2115 for a multi-point fitted, so save a grand a DIY.

PS, LSE goes like a stabbed rat on LPG, if I fix the leads you will see it at the weekend

Smart arese

The LSE is a Range Rover as you should well know   that's why i said it would be cheaper with a different tank.  To comply with the relevant code of whatever the gas installation should be 6 inches IIRC ahead of the rear of the vehicle, minimum.

As you are buying the Disco for the jump seats I guess a tank in the boot would be a stupid idea, so your choices are sill tanks at around 40 litres each or a pair of 36 litre tanks inplace of the petrol tank and a 6 gallon jump tank in the inner wing, not my favourite idea and the tank is £loads too.

I thought about fitting a 36 litre petrol tanks and 36 litre LPG tank in place of the petrol tank and a pair of sill tanks, 'till I found out that torroidal tanks were back on the market.

Hi! I am on my 6th ex Japan Disco!!

All have been great. Do get a COMPLETE service asap. Don't skimp.

Why 6 you ask? Importing used cars from Japan is mega business in NZ and my brother + I import Euro cars from Japan as a buisiness. No diesels after 1998 in Japan so no TD5s :( My latest is a SII V8 with 65000Km (40300 miles). Mint. My last 1 was a 97 SI Tdi with 40000Km!! A new car!! BTW, Defenders go for DRUG MONEY!!! Dont go there!!!

Anyhoo get into it!! Am curious about the 'miles' on the speedo tho, or is that converted when back in the UK?

All Jap cars are RHD.  Has the Speedo been replaced with a UK MPH set or have they just stuck a MPH conversion sticker set on?

Think you'll find the importer will have stuck an MPH sticker over the KPH speedo - seems to be standard practice and is what was done to my P38
The electronic tripmeter is still in kilometers though as is the fuel consumption read out (litres / 100 kilometers) - don't mind that bit as I cant comprehend the figures and scare myself with the consumption
AFAIK the only other alteration required for repatriation into the UK is the addition of rear fog lights - apparently not required in Japan for some reason

On the TD5 you can manually reset the tripmeter between km and miles, I did it by accident and had kittens as I saw my annual mileage go through the roof, then I realised

Presume you will be able to do the same with the V8s.

Just press and hold the reset button in for about 5 seconds IIRC.

That only works if the Speedo has MPH/KMH markings on it as standard UK and EU ones do.

My G4 DII is Australian Spec and has the KMH Speedo with no MPH scale.  The tripmeter on this cannot be switched and I'd suspect the same applies to the Jap spec models.

Useful to know for the day when I can afford a G4.
