The local pub to the campsite this weekend sold Top Hat. 8)

In my youth it used to be 'Old Peculiar' or 'Black Sheep'
Now a days I have to stick to Guiness - has the tendacy to make me sleeeepy before slightly 'nissed.
At home I love a couple or three of Hobgoblin as a treat!

Last night's entertainment was provided courtesy of this:
-
ahhh... my local brew.... made about 7 miles from here... you can even take a tour of the brewery :-)
-
mmmmmmmmm - all the above certainly give me wobbly leg syndrome :D
-
My local gets in a selection of local brews problem problem it the land lord only gets a few kegs so when it's gone it’s gone although Black Sheep proved very popular he now has it on all the time. He's got 'Tangle Foot' on at the moment, as well as some others which I have yet to try (several pints just to make sure :D .) My favorite at the moment has to be 'Wobbly Bob'
-
Out on Dartmoor there is a brewery producing
"Jail Ale".
Well worth a try
Cheers,
Paul.

Wobbly Bob?
I thought he'd been drinking speckled hen. 8)
Dunno why but I can't enjoy the bottled version.

My local has speckled hen in as a long term guest now, trouble is they employ monkeys who cant pour a pint properly :( means you have to oreder several at a time to save trips back..

So, Tim my good friend, which weekend in 2005 are you organising a trip round the brewery for Mud Club members, were is the nearest camp site and how much have I got to save???
-
Funnily enough I have thought about doing that... if there is interest, I'd be happy to sort it.
Mrs Muddyweb knows the manager there from her previous job, so we could probably get a deal too.
Plenty of campsites and B&B in the immediate area.
-
Incidentally, to make a proper day of it all, there is also the Royal Signals Museum which is quite interesting and an indoor kart circuit....
I think of everything you know ;-)
-
/me gets his chisel out carves BEER TOUR in the wall so he won't forget. If it's happening - I'M THERE!!!!
-
Puts beer goggles on and dreams of hops and barley =P~

When you have finished with the breweries and want to graduate to the grown-up stuff, there are over 90 (legal) DISTILLERIES in Scotland producing the water of life (why do you think we moved up here). If you're interested let me know and we'll sample the water's togther hic !
-
Hubby ears pricked up at the mere mention of brewery vists... So if there is something going on can we come please? :)
Talking of Scotland and the real stuff, would be good too!
Has anyone read Ian Banks 'In search of a we dram'
Steve's just read it, Ive started and there's a brilliant bit about Landrovers and the joy on them. He's obviously a real fan, mentioned them in passing In 'Dead Air'

Hello Helen
We are comming down to Northampton this, week have a look at :Show/ Pay and Play/ Events: :An old freind is visting: and join in the fun

SWMBO used to have a thing for Theakstons 'Old Peculiar' http://www.theakstons.co.uk/ & Black Sheep Ales, 'RiggWelter' in particular http://www.blacksheepbrewery.com/
Every drive out into the Yorkshire Dales meant that if we were calling for dinner/snack at a puib it had to provide one of these 2 fluids.
Nowadays she likes a drop of pure malt Whisky.
When we were on our way back from our 'Weekend In Whitby' I took her to Stamford Bridge (the one near York) & the whisky shop there.

I'd been in the shop before out of curiosity & was amazed by the variety of Whiskys on sale. The proprietor reckoned he'd got over 600 differant blends!
Some were over £400 a bottle!!
She sampled, upon is kind offer, & I ended up buying her 2 bottle that came to about £80.00!!!
One of them was almost £60.00 by itself  - that's standing in the bar not to be opened
Apparantly the cask was destroyed after contents were bottled, so the distinctive flavour won't be copied/diluted
