A very good friend of mine who works on a farm in Norfolk, got a commendation from the local Fire Service, for use of a teleporter at a barn fire.
The fire was that intense they couldn't get in so he went in and pulled the stuff out.
Being a typical Norfolk man, his only response to it all was "Thass a bit warm in thar, ol' booty. I fancy a pint"

This is just a pasing thought, but would it be possible at some time point to sort out a time and place where MC bods could get together with some of these big bits of machinery and have a go?
It sounds daft, but I have always wanted to plough a few furrows. It is one of the things on my 'want to do' list.

it would be a good idea but its getting them to where ever
Title: tractors
Post by: Tractorboy16 on February 13, 2007, 21:31:21
Hi,

Is a really good idea,

however the logistics are a night mare,

getting farmers to lending there machines to someone who hasn't ever driven them is a night mare!!!

if anyone is in the reading facility on the 17th march the university are doing a 48 hour ploughing marathen with two tractors and im doing a 4 hour shift so if they wanted could come and have a go but having a meet up would be massivly unpractical but an awsome idea.

Best bet would be to go and find your local farmer and arsk him for a drive, most would be happy to help im sure if you arsked nicely!!!

its a big thing in the farming press these days to try and the the general public back on board.

love driving machinery, been playing in our bobcat 322 for the last few weeks! only a 1.5 ton 360 but still good fun, just wish it had a full glass cab  had my first and second experiance of throwing a track today which was interesting! still quickly learnt how to put it back on which was handy as it came off again an hour later! also got a licence to drive any size foreward loading dumper :D

i think tractors now are similar to cars

back in the day, im talking david brown 990 and 1394, you could do your own service and fix most things with things in the toolshed, but my old man has a new-ish mccormick now and its got more lights on the dash than my galant!

the new fastracs we work on now have to have a laptop plugged in just to see whats up with them, we had the jcb guy down to install some new software last week and he wiped the transmission ecu by mistake   much panic as the tractor wouldnt move then

I've been a Tractor fan for years - much to the wifes dismay

Used to have a Davy Brown 880 WITH trip loader and an old Nuffield implimatic.

Spent a lot of time driving a Massey Fergie 565 on my mates farm mainly muck spreading with the old rota spreader

Also enjoyed driving the old JCB IIIC - Jolly good fun

The wifes just don't understand !! :(biglaugh):

I've got a soft-spot for the older stuff.

When we move & get a bit bigger garden/yard, SWMBO says I can have a Ferguson TE20 :D

One of my friends has a few Fordson E27N's & a couple of Field-Marshall Series 1's, now those are fun!! (nice mechanical specification as well)

Come to think of it;

New house & a Field-Marshall? (sounds better than a Fergie, doesn't it?)

http://www.fwi.co.uk/Articles/2007/02/09/101459/challenger-whips-the-wraps-off-the-worlds-most-powerful.html

back in 2000 we looked at buying a tractor with 165hp at work, we looked at everything on the market but in the end we had the chance  to buy a new Unimog. :D  :D  :D

So we did
