I'm looking at lifting my 90 by about 2". I'd prefer it if I could also get some extra axle articulation out of it too. I'm running ISST at about 33" so they rub on the arches slightly as is. I'm just curious as to which way is cheapest. There are loads of kits out there but which is best? And cheapest! Heard of rewelding brake pipe mounts so as to save on buying extended lines. Do I really need bent radius arms? Will the UJ's survive a 2" lift if they are left standard?
Lots and lots of questions! Just curious to see if it's worth it.

Why not just change/cut the arches?

As Paul says, just look at trimming the arches.
If you want a lift, the cheapest way is to use spring packers to lift springs and fit longer shocks. You can see some options here under lift kits, http://www.llama4x4.co.uk/
Easier to spend 26 notes on two extended brake lines than re-weld brake pipe mounts and hope the pipework will move ok. Go for a 1" lift and you won't need to do them.
If your springs are old then you might as well replace. OME are best but are also most exepnsive, Britpart etc come in at about 50-60 pounds a pair.
You don't have to change out radius arms, and UJ's may or may not be a problem with a 2" lift, will be no problem with a 1" lift

heavy duty coils will lift it.

Instead of going for a 'lift kit' i fitted heavy duty springs and shocks.
This gave a 1.5" lift with nothing else needed 8)

SOmeone suggested fitting Range Rover red/whites all round to a 90. They are quite cheap compared to 'lifted' springs.

work brill on mine,thats what i run with +2 shocks & flexs oh so well
on a defender u dont need extended hoses untill u go beyond +2
the way the hoses sit its not required
