30mpg

45 litres is 10 gallons, so you divide the 300 by the ammount of gallons :D

there is 4.5 litres to a british gallon, 5 litres to an american one

33mpg sound right

45 liters divided by 5 liters ( 1 gallon)  = 9 gallons

300 divided 9 = 33.33333333333333333333333333333

by the looks of it, I'm wrong.

I am hopeless at maths as well

4.54 litre per imperial gallon

45/4.54 = 9.912*gal

300/9.912 = 30.226* mpg

* to three significant places.

Well if you are not going to work it out more accurately than that, why bother posting  :lol:

We have an Ibiza sport with the VAG 1.9 PD 130 fitted, and yes 30 mpg is rather crap even for town driving.

I've got an Octavia VRS with the 1.8 turbo engine (unleaded), and 30's pretty respectable for a pretty thrashed drive. 34/35 is more likely overall, and I can get to the dizzy heights of 38 if I drive really carefully.

The previous 2 were both VAG TDi 130BHP's (Passat and Golf) and I could get well into the 50's (average) with those if I was careful.

I'm guessing the A3's not a diesel :shock:

Cheers

Ben

I got my A3 diesel really really cheap 2 weeks back, total bargain for an 03 plate TDi 130, lovely car and i've already put nearly 1500 miles on the clock!
