Title: Heat shield under exhaust manifold?
Post by: Dr Strangeglove on February 18, 2007, 04:11:02
I have taken the heads of my V8 and whilst doing so a couple of bolts broke on the exhaust manifold (off side) towards the bulk head.  The screws in question were not standard.  They had a long head on them and were tapped so that a tray/shield of some kind could be bolted to them using a smaller diameter screw.  I could not see what the tray was shielding and I am wondering if this needs to go back on.  Has anyone any ideas?

Just done my heads.  There should (used to be) a heat shield between the manifold and starter. There is also a bracket that goes onto the top bolt between 8 and 6.

Thanks - I will make sure it goes back on - unfortunately I broke them trying to take them out
Where is the best place to get new bolts for the exhaust (including the extended ones for this) and also the steel items that have the tabs on to stop the bolts from becoming loose?

Try Rimmers Bros for stuff like that, not the cheapest but if they say it's in the post, it's in the post.  Otherwise D4x4.
