Not meaning this to start a Tdi vs TD5 argument, but I'm hoping in the next year or so to be able to consider a nice 90 and am trying to decide whether to go for a Tdi or an older potentially slightly shabbier TD5 for similar sort of money.
I know that in theory you should be able to get over 200k miles out of a Tdi, but what kind of mileages have people got out of their TD5 without major problems?
Cheers guys.

I know of TD5's that have done just under 200K and not had problems, i used to drive a TD5 with over 130K on the clock without missing a beat :)

Cheers Smo.
Is there anyway of telling if you're gonna get a good one engine wise or not? I'm pretty happy on what to look for in terms of bodywork and condition, but not so clear on engine...

Drive it, if it drives well, doesnt smoke loads and sounds ok then it probably is, look for a full history to ensure its been looked after.

Nice one - thanks.
Was in a 110 300Tdi today - made me realise what my old disco's engine should have been like! Purring away sweetly it was (well, for a diesel anyway!)
