who here uses them? what do you all think o them n where can i buy them from?
Just watched a dvd of the site i shall be going to at the end o march for the ironman enduro & it would appear i could do with some more warm clothes :lol:

Hi Mike-they are a fantastic piece of kit,warm,comfortable and most of all do the job they are desinged for. They are manufactured at a place in Sheffield,South Yorkshire and sold mainly through a group of shops called OUTSIDE.,but any quality outdoor pursuits shop should sell. Thinking your in Scotland try NEVISPORT as when they had a shop near to me they sold the full range of clothing.

Either Buffalo or the Montane equivelent. The fact that both are virtually standard kit for Mountain Rescue Teams speaks volumes. Both are available over the net, but you need to buy for the fit.
I've got tops and sleeping bags by Buffalo, and they do work exceptionally well when wet. They're bulky, but probably the best thing for really poor environments.
Another key trick for active sports is a layer of Powerstreatch fleecey stuff underneath (two layers of PW and a goretex coat have kept me well in a windchill of -65). However, this a strictly personal thing.

the buffalo can come in many forms, jackets shirts etc, montana are equally good. snugpak do a cheaper version. as for getting them go to any military surplus shop and you cant go far wrong - silvermans, stringtown supplies, sass

Ive met Hamish who owns(maybe still does but used to) Buffalo. One of my mates brothers worked for him in Sheff and testing trips were fairly frequent. The jackets are great and i would recommend them. You should easily find someone in Scotland with them in stock. Spike used to stock em at Nevis sport but its a while since ive been up there.
As for the sleeping bags...give em a wide birth! They weigh a piggin tonne and are not warm enough for severe temperatures.
Also have a look at some of the mTB clothing ranges as i have a similar thing but better fitting with more pocket(and reflective bits so you dont get flattened!)s...all you are really looking for is a pertex pile combination.
As for sleeping bags if you can afford down and dont sleep in rivers then buy down!

well here's my take.
One reversible Paramo base layer. Wicking boxers and Craghopper zip off trews.
Then i have a ME windstopper fleece. for windy conditions.
and a ME cirrus duvet Jkt for when it's cold.
and a Paramo Alta 2 jacket and cascada trousers for when it's wet. ( the cascada's are also for cold stuff as well.)
and i use a ME sleepwaker 3 sleeping bag. which is toasty warm. (and that is because i was a poor student and couldn't afford down.)
Outrageously expensive but very functional. :)

I have had my buffalo smock for about 7 years and its as good as nearly new :oops: .
Its been to the top Matterhorn, around the Alps, Wales, Scotland,and never failed, often I dont wear a top underneath and its warm Even when wet.
I wear it all the time now greenlaning (getting to old for climbing the mountains) as its comfy warm and not the slightest bit bulky.
Be warned you have to buy the hood separate though.
All in all a great bit of kit :D
Oh and Agungilac (spelling :oops: ) sleeping bags do it for me :wink:

Buy what suits you. Paramo stuff just ripped of buffalo's idea. Never really liked it for that reason although i have mates who use it. layers is the key so you can change what you have on quickly to adapt to changing weather. I will have a look for ya mike and see whos got buffalos near me.They may know of northerley distributers.

I originally got my buffalo from Cotswolds, not sure if they are north of the border.

I know what Bulli means about the Buffalo sleeping bags, but the complete inner+outer system is very warm, but, dang, it takes some packing :shock: . I still say, for extreme environments, there's nowt better (I usually use a TNF job, for 'normal' camping).
Anyhoo, IME, Buffalo is a much tougher clothing system than Paramo (as good as it is). It isn't as well finished, but that's reflected in the price.

Hmmm it doesnt mention the matterials used externally.
I would pay the extra for the pertex and pile the buffalo use plus its breathable, with many options for cooling and I love the centre hand muffler pockets of the buffalo.

i have used buffalo tops for years with the army and they have never let me down. that is either out and about around the brecon beacons for up playing around denmark and they stay nice and warm and are water proof to a point but dry out very quick and are so comfy is like working in a sleeping bag
