Hello from a newbie to your forum. I’ve had a S111 for about 4 years and have just bought an ex military low mileage (40k miles)1991 Defender 90 2.5 N/A. I could do with a bit of general help till I find my feet and get it fettled…..
I bought it in England and drove it to Ireland yesterday, Jeezus the ferry was full with the 6 nations. Anyway, got home ok with just the alternator securing bolts coming slack and letting the alternator rattle at low revs but seemed fine at normal driving speeds. A pretty good testimony for the truck.
Only when I got home did I find the ignition key does not fit the door locks !! Can I just buy the barrel locks and can the 3 be adjusted to fit one key? I wouldn’t imagine a Dublin Land Rover dealer having a key to fit !!
One of the sliding window locks fails to lock the window. The ‘switch’ turns through 360 degrees and gives a bit of resistance at 90 degree intervals. It looks as though its held in place with 3 phillips screws so is it serviceable and replaceable or will it just fall apart in my hands?
The S111 has an assortment of bolts, is the defender basically metric sizes

you should buy new locks anyway... they dont use the ignition key but will come with teh right one.. its a little silver thing :)
if you take the window apart you can probably fix it, but dont hold me to that cos it might just fall out and hit the deck! easy enough to find a replacement part though

It wouldn't be a landrover if you didn't have a different key for every door

Aint that the truth :D
BTW have found that Defenders (TD5 anyway, cant imagine the others are any different) have a real hodgepodge of different fittings both metric and imperial so it's likely yours will too I'd have thought :) Just makes it more interesting!

Thanks for that, no real surprises there then !! I guess thats why we all love Land Rovers. Next job, get the manuals and part numbers.
