Title: Green Lane Repair 3rd/4th March - Yorkshire
Post by: muckmoses on February 25, 2007, 11:45:23
Sorry for the intrusion into the bar, but I wanted as many people to see this as possible.

The above event has had to be cancelled as the local parish council has raised objections.

I will update you when we have more information.

Surely it's nothing to do with them anyway? Round here the "community" council (our version of the Parish council) are basically just middle-men between us and the county council, and not very effective at that!

Fail to understand the mentality. As said before, turning down free, properly insured and supervised labour? To help maintain tracks that are supposed to be kept fit for purpose? When I presume the council boys will be out working on it anyway? Daft.

NCGL.ORG offered the council help with route restoration etc. We suggested 'Chapel gate' in Derbyshire.

REJECTED

NCGL.ORG Offered the council assistance in times of harsh weather etc via the 4x4 rsponse network. Expecting no recompense for work done.

REJECTED

Guess what, we have given up. The mindless jobsworth nobodies in the council would sooner close the lanes, have it go to the court of human rights , lose, be declared bankrupt due to huge court costs etc, than say, YES, we will accept your help, its not been done before, but we will find a way to make it work.

I think we are fighting a losing battle.

My suggestion was that 4x4 clubs could 'adopt' lanes. making them their own responsibility to keep an eye on, and help out with repairs etc, thus putting their bit back into the countryside. a sign at the start/finnish of the lane promoting the clubs assistance would maybe make us more socially acceptable also.
No-one seemed to think it was do-able.........

Doesn't just extend to 4x4 access either. We've had the local RoW officer out to look at a few footpaths up here that are clearly unfit for purpose, and the response we got was "We'll come back in April and see if they've improved.". Because, yup, it's quite clearly marked on the OS map as a Self Repairing Footpath. Idiots.
