Seems a lot of stuff flying around about this subject at the mo, although the tainted fuel scare is hiding this one on the back burner
From what I've seen, I hope it finally does cut down on the amount of people using their phones whilst driving, it can be frightening watching what people get up to when talking on a phone
On another note, what about cb's, food eating, changing radio stations etc, oh what fun, also children in the car, especially younger ones, who demand attention from the stressed parent while they are driving, seen one person bottle feeding their little one in a front seat baby seat, while driving through a busy town
Some people say that hands free kits should be included in this legislation too (although some people do more hand language while talking on the phone than a police man does directing traffic), does this mean if a person is singing along with their music they can get ddistracted to the point of dangerous driving, or even talking to a passenger, how many of us have took their eyes off the road to look at the person next to them whilst driving
Have fun with the replies :)

Have replied to this on another forum too I think. The police are as bad as anyone for using their two way radios on their shoulders while driving....... are we going to see them being prosecuted? No I think not....... I believe people who use a phone should be done but if they have a hands free kit that should be allowed....... as this is no more distracting than talkin to a passenger or singing along to the radio....... and does it mean you could in fact get done mistakenly if say you were seen singing to your radio and the police pull you over and there happens to be a mobile phone on the passenger seat?

It amazes me the amount of people still driving without a seat belt being worn. Suppose that'll be the next one for doubling fines and adding 3 points.
-
well the fact that its now an endorsable offence should make a difference but... i,ve not seen any evidence today to suggest that it has, there were as many people on their phones as there have ever been

I would add driving off on winter mornings without clearing the car of frost or snow.
And having a dog loose in the car.
And..... no, better stop there or we'll be here all night

The thing is, drive without a seatbelt and you're only likely to injure yourself. Drive whilst talking on the dog and other people are at risk. I've seen some terrible driving from people on phones and personally I welcome the legislation. If people still want to use them, get a hands free kit.
I once saw Debbie McGee driving round the M25 in Paul's Bentley whilst chatting on her moby. Why the selfish cow couldn't be bothered to get a hands-free kit is beyond me.

I have no hands free kit and don't use the phone in the car, phone rings it gets ignored. No reason to do it so fine away............ Seat belts are a totally separate can of worms, if i don't want to wear one then it makes no difference to my driving and affects me only.

As a truck driver I see quite a few things that scare me.
Kids being unrestrained in a car should carry an attempted manslaughter charge. The number of women on the school run with a car full of hyper kids bouncing around inside is rediculous.
Today, one came off a roundabout and failed to see the manual stop/go signs held by a bloke in a high viz vest ( road was up ).
She slammed all on when she eventually saw me on her side of the road, 5 kids had to scramble back into their seats before she could see to reverse !
The guy with the sign actually jumped out of the way of the impending collision !
Not quite sure what he shouted at her though, I was busy pouring my self another coffee !

Once tried driving and using a moby.......never again
Don't agree with hands free either...been out with sales reps sorting out problems on their hands free with customers..no way were they in full control of their car...
