Ok,
I drive a p-reg 300tdi disco arden, its a great car, but worth about 2500, do i get a 200tdi for playing with or do I stick with the current one and get a lift, new wheels, etc?
i have been looking at the photos on here, and most modified discos seem to be of the m reg era.
your suggestions please, as i am planning on looking at a cheap 200tdi on sunday.
i also have a comp motor, so will online be using it for greenlanes and that
cheers

Just paid £800 for a K Plate 200tdi very clean inside, MOT till dec/07 needs new floor in rear and a power steering pump. other than that she's great. Had 2 owners from new last owner for 11years full service history to Nov 2005. My advice is check the local papers and Ebay etc. Don't expect to get any bargains in-forum, most of the vehicles advertised on here and other 4x4's forums and magazines are totally overrated and overpriced.

If anyone is interested I have a K Reg 200tdi Disco for sale, £1000 ono.
About 4 months Tax and MOT.
She had a major vibration which turned out to be a missfire that has gone now but there is still a very small vibration. needs a new UJ on steering rack and a rear bumper as the one I have on her will come off for sale, Its a 5mm Heavy duty one that cost alot.
I rebuilt the inner wings for last MOT and put a new rear floor in.
The interior is not bad except the panel by the rear seat has some fire damage, (didnt remove it for welding and it got hot!)
Its a 3 door in brown, got it from another mud club member.
Have alot of paperwork that I got with.
I live in centre of Cambridge.
If anyone is interested then please contact me.

Don't expect to get ripped off either! several of us saw that "thing" for sale in Grimsby, it was worth about £300 to break for parts but it was listed on flea-bay about 3 times and caused a lot of bad feeling.
If you buy from a fellow member you are more likey to know the history of the car and get a more honest description, eh Bezza
As for magazines, the good ones are gone before you read it.
I'd say if you can afford the tax and insurance for a second motor then get a 1K V8 with a bit of history and use that.

I can't find the thread at the moment but there was a late 80s RRC in green that was shall we say 'described enthusiastically'?
A couple of members went to look at it and found the description very inaccurate. Gearbox problems, engine noises, body corrosion IIRC. Basically some spare panels and seats mascerading as a car.
It was on E-Bay and one guy had travelled some distance to see it.
Now I have bought cars on e-bay before, so does my mate who is a trader. Don't bid any more than you are prepared to loose if it's a lemon. Go and look at the car before you bid more than it's weighing in value.
Take cash, I never go to look at a car then say "right, I'll go home and bid on it", if the seller won't take cash there and then at a fair price, I just leave them to it. One thing with working with my mate, I learned to add in the cost of my time onto a car, so if you go twice, you pay less. I never admitt I'm buying the car for me anymore.
This has worked for me in the past but you have to know what you are buying, or have a mate like mine. He saved me £1800 on the LSE over what I was prepared to pay, just because he knows the game.
