Title: hub oil seal

Does anybody know the part number for the front inner hub seal on my 1992 defender 90.

i use RTC 3511, they are double lipped. press into depth -2mm and they'll not leak. be perfect on your def.

Your old seal may be the single lip type, but the seal that Simon mentions is better and is a direct replacement. When fitting it, it has to sit lower in the hub because the inner lip is the highest point, The single lip type has to be just 1mm or so inside the housing, whereas the double lip has to be 4mm. If you don't put the seal in deeper it'll abrade on the stub axle face and fail after only a couple of weeks.

Thread here of a 300TDi CSW that I did. Ths is replacement of the wheel bearing, but a picture of the later seal and it's location is shown.

I have just been supplied with FTC4785 it is definitely different to what was on there and seemed to fit ok .

The seal you have been supplied with is a single lip type which is probably the same as was fitted at the factory and is generally regarded as inferior to the double lip type. Either seal will fit in the hub.

Thanks for all your info i will have words ,had to fit supplied seal as i needed the car .
