Windscreen wipers.
Seems obvious I know but my Rover 620 decided today that it wasnt going to play anymore with cleaning my windscreen.
Pootling along a dual carriage way and I luckily slowed down to 55mph and into the slow lane to turn left at a roundabout ahead to turn onto a motorway. Just as they stopped there was an empty layby I dived into!!! If it had been 5 minutes before or after I would have probably been over taking a lorry and I hate to think what would have happened then as in the few seconds they werent working I couldnt see anything.
RAC got me back on the road with 45minutes of me calling them out though.

we had to recover a volvo 400 miles cos the wipers packed up and couldn't get them going again all paid for by the AA

I went to my posh car recyclers today to get another linkage.
He wasnt sure if he had one so gave me a hi vis and off I wondered and found a rover in better nic than mine. How does that work then?? any way it had the linkage I needed and the car was on the floor and not on a shelf 7 cars high!
I went back to get a quote. 1 bit of tiny metal. £25  I said they were taking the mic werent they and he said nope. He said it is due to labour getting the car down and removing the part. I told the chap the car was on the floor and I could get it off within 10mins so he said he would reduce it down to £15 for me. Bit better but stil expensive.
After I took it off and also saved the plastic clips for the plastic trim under the winscreen as RAC windscreen destroyed all mine I went back and he said oh THAT bit. a tenner!! :D Not bad really and I got to practise on a car I didnt care about.
I was half tempted to get 1 of the front wheel arches as the one I found wasnt rusty and mine is but I cant be bothered to take 2 off and put 1 on in the rain
Just got to fit the part onto my rover now! At least I got the flat tyre on the disco sorted today. rusty / muddy rims leaking air out!!!

Always the same scrap yards, they have you by the goolies because they know how much a main stealer would charge (or not in the case of Rover!!) and everyone who goes to a scrap yard get p£$*ed off because they probably got paid to take the car away!! My tip, get a jacket with big pockets and get your moneys worth (not that I condone stealing in any way shape or form officer)

Funny you should say that!!! Done it in the past. Found a tool or 2 in a boot and walked out saying I took it in there to undo summit!!!
I was quiet tempted to take the whole car away tbh. The only thing wrong with it from what I could se was no front door windows. drivers side gone and passenger side smashed. still had shopping in the back seats as well! It was in lovely nic.

I fitted a new drivers side wiper blade on Sat ready for a longish run on rain forcasted Sun. On the way home in heavy rain, a couple of miles after I had been thinking how good new blades are the bloody thing fell off!!! When I fitted it I thought it did not click into place as securely as the one I took of. Had to drive forty miles in heavy rain with no wipers, not good, but also not a bad as I thought it would be.
