hi I have just bought a 410 engine to fit my sj but it has not been ran for 8yrs is there anything i need to do before taking it off road hard as the last engine I fitted blown the piston rings

Assuming you havent done so alreadt, change the oil, filters etc. Possibly take it easy for a while before you give it some serios stick. It may be worth giving it a dam good going over while its still out of the car, gaskets etc and other things that are a pain to do while its in the car.

I f its not been ran for that long i would be tempted to take the head off. Clean away any carbon and rust ect... Just a thought..

I'd change the oil and filter (cheap oil) warm it up then flush it and change the oil for kwalitee oil and a new filter again, same with the coolant, whilst its warm pump the water everywhere then back flush whilst draining! obviously it'll need plugs!

I am suprised at people destroying these lumps..... mine takes hell and all abuse and touch wood is all ok!
