as some of you know i have a new tapered bumper on its way, weve got from the prototype onto the c.a.d.
it is amazing!
the bumper doesnt actually exist as yet but they have showed me a video of it on screen being rotated through any angle, and then on a disco!
these computers are wicked bits of kit.
i have a printout would post it, but dont know how though.
if any one could recieve it as an email and could stick it up it would be very much appreciated, you can tell me what you think then!

What ya havin an issue with?
Cant you use the Screengrab function (PrntScrn) then paste it intoo paint or summat, save as a Jpg, and then post like that?

hard to believe thats not a photo isnt it.
i think they look the danglies, as for how much!
they still havent quoted me on laser costs as yet, but if all goes to plan (my plan), im gonna be selling them for about £300, thats around a one'r saving on some of the other boyz.
its a good spec bumper but when they are done i will stick a thing in the releases so i dont get told off again.
just would appreciate some initial feedback!

initial drawing is disco fitment but defenders will be along very soon, just want to do it one at a time and get them right!

Can I ask why the hole for the cable is so high? I would have expected it to be nearer the bottom of the bumper

winch sits level with top of chassis, keeps it up out the muc, plus this bumper is designed for maximum ground clearance and approach angles.
our first winch bumpers had very low mounting winches and all the competition boys didnt like it, i can understand that! dont want to go snorkeling in the mud to pull yer cable out do yer!
the winch mounting plate, is 1 big integral mounting plate(10mm) folded to create the bumper to chassis mountings also, and on top of that,
the recovery eyes are also part of this same plate and stick through slots in the bumper assembly.
this way everything is bolted to, and recovers from 1 plate, as opposed to lots of different welded on plates.
its quite a complex bumper behind the skin, but should be awsome for rigidity and longevity.

You see there is very little point in doing a design like that in 3D only to then build it and find that although ti fits perfectly as you expected its not strong enough, or flexes in places or has a weak spot all of which can be analyised and overcome in the design process using FEA analysis :)

THING IS, WHEN YOUVE BEEN BUILDING STUFF WI METAL FOR YEARS, FOR EXAMPLE 40 FOOT LONG, 20 TON STONE CUTTING MACHINERY WITH 3 METER DIAMETER BLADES, YOU KINDA HAVE A GOOD IDEA OF HOW THINGS ARE GOING TO BE.
AND THEN AS THE MAN SAYS, THERE IS NOT COMPUTER PROGRAM IN THE WORLD THAT IS LIKE REAL LIFE TESTING.
AND FOR THE PURPOSE OF A WINCH BUMPER THAT IS BASICALLY PULLING YOU OUT THE POO, IT IS MORE THAN UPTO!
LOT OF PEOPLE DONT SEEM TO GRASP THEY ARE BOLTING IT TO A 2MM CHASSIS.
THEN YOU JUST HAVE TO GET THE BALANCE OF WEIGHT AND MATERIAL THICKNESS, AND HOW ITS MADE SO ALSO REDUCING MATERIAL THICKNESSES.
LOTS OF PEOPLE WANT 'X' BUILDING AND 'CAN I HAVE IT IN 3INCH PLATE SO IT WONT BEND', WHEN IF IT WAS MADE CORRECTLY, 5MM PLATE WOULD BE JUST AS GOOD, AND WEIGH MUCH LESS.

And I'm sure it's very necessary today due to the big boys wanting to make as much profit out of nothing as they can.
I believe in Guardian's case the use of CAD was to see what it would look like, not to see if it would work or, more often, how flimsy can it be made to take the loading for say 10 or so times before it disintegrates, so we can chare 600% over the odds for it.

folks, im not trying to be clever or make any thing flimsy! far from it.
the only reason i had this cad thing is thats how the laser programmers get there programs for the laser cutting.
its nothing to do with me, i just make a prototype, give it to them and they measure and draw it up to my spec, then once its on the cad thing, it sends the program to the profiler and the press computers.
i just thought it was really smart how something that doesnt exist, i can watch it on a video.

i suppose so, didnt really consider non winch as about 80% of our sales are winch bumpers, but im sure we could come up with something! :D

Looks fantastic, best one I have seen I think, need to see it on a car though.
As for non winch, this one looks sleek enough to be used as both, bung your number plte over the winch hole and thats it, then when you have a little more dosh to buy the winch you already have the bumper

THAT WAS THE ONLY PRINT OUT I BROUGHT AWAY WITH ME I AM AFRAID.
BUT FROM THE SIDE IT WILL BE JUST ABOUT UNNOTICEABLE, I HOPE.
I THINK IT WILL BE THE TIGHTEST FITTING WINCHBUMPER ON THE MARKET, IT WAS DESIGNED TO HARDLY POKE OUT THE FRONT OF THE GRILL AND HEADLIGHT LINE AT ALL.
HOPEFULLY WILL BE ONLY A WEEK I HOPE UNTILL I GET A SAMPLE BACK TO HAVE AND HOLD, AND RUB, AND STROKE, AND CLEAN, AND POLISH, AND SELL, I HOPE!

Ask the CAD guys to save you some JPEG images of the bumper from different angles..
then you can get a better idea of what it'll look like.......
As for the FEA, depending what CAD system he's using, its a fairly easy and straightforward process...
i'm not sure of its value, but it might make interesting viewing..
I did some FEA stuff on a H/D defender bumper when I was at uni, when using it as a rope anchor on a seriously stuck vehicle the displacement/ deformation was awesome...
