Title: after a seconded car
Post by: disco-v8 on March 07, 2007, 16:54:06
ok the V8 is getting way to firsty now to use it as an everyday car, i cant afford to keep putting £40 in a week just to do 110 miles

so now im after a second car to get me work and back and maybe longer distancies

i didnt no if to get a good diesel so i can get loads of MPG or to get something abit sportyer......  or hopefuly a bit of both like a sporty diesel

dont wont to spend more than £3000 so what cars do you recon????

Gas it!
Multipoint system fitted to my p38 for 1350 all in. It is now cheaper to run than my Smart was!

How does that work out?  If you're getting about 16mpg on gas, then you're getting the equivalent of about 30mpg in terms of cost...  did your Smart do less than that?  I thought they were quite efficient.

Mine cost about the same as running a Mondeo.  The LSE isn't economical at all but oddly Blue isn't that steep to run.

It must be the way I drove the cars.
The Range Rover is so effortless I didn't need to floor it all the time.
The Smart I drove flat out everywhere so it would return high 30'smpg, the Range rover will average about 19-21mpg on my 120 round trip commute so with petrol for the smart (super unleaded) being about 96p a liter and gas for the RR is 39.9 you can see how the RR is about the same to run and a lot more practicle

306 Diesel

Golf Diesel

or if you don't mind higher insurance then look at the Turbo Diesels too.

They do hold there price well but a quick squizz on autotrader shows there are plenty around circa 2000 though I've only took a quick peep.

How about an Octavia - again, same vehicle as the Golf, but (again) a bit cheaper.

I'd recommend any of the VAG group. Must be why we're going to be trading in the vRS Octavia for a Focus TDCi at some point later this year!

What we've found is that the Focus is much cheaper than a fiesta for the same age, and a mondeo's even cheaper. All about supply and demand, I guess...

Consider yourself fortunate to be spending £40 for 110 miles!  The 2.25 can easily do a whole lot worse.  I know from experience.

pug 309turbo diesel, Caz had one very nippy, very very economical and you could buy one and have £2700 spare from your £3000, run it for 12 months n get another....

everything in the VAG group which i like is way too much money.....

i dont wont a normal car that you see everyone drive.... im after something that i enjoy driving, and each time the sun comes out i cant wait to clean it, if you understand what i mean......

with the golf the standard ones all look the same, i want one that looks like a R32 but has an engine like the TDI

so far ive been looking at 306 yet again TD's and HDI's but the HDI's are quite exspensive but might save up abit more for one, they look just like the gti-6's but have a great diesel engine

ive also been looking at zsara vtr 1.8 16v and bravo HLX 1.8 16v

they all look nice and dont have a fuel firsty engine
