Title: FUSE 2 ON DEFENDERS 1995 (HELP)
Post by: simonred90 on March 12, 2007, 21:26:38
i have a fault with my daily drive 300 DEF 90 (95)
fuse 2 which is the horn, flash, clock, interior lights and AUX, keeps poping fuses. seemed to be intermittant but now all the time. i have disconnected the horn stalk, horn unit, interior light, both door switches, clock, and still blows fuses.
i am unsure what the "AUX" is power to because i think this is the only thing i have not disconnected and must be the cause to my problem as i am certain the vehicle wiring is not at fault. although re wiring will be my next option. can anyone tell me what "AUX" might be?! any help would be much appreciated! ta!
for the record it is a '95 hardtop 90. standard spec.

the door switches are only earth anyway (i think) so disconecting them wont do anything.  check behind your interior light to see if anything is wrong there.

when does the fuse blow ? as soon as you put it in or when you do something?

In the table of fuses above, fuse 2 says 'trailer pickup' - crud in the 12N  (towbar) socket maybe ?

I know this might sound silly, but i had a similar problem on a mk3 cortina and checked all the known problemed circuits without success. final tracked it down to reverse lightswitch (screwed in g/box) which was shorting out whenever it got damp. not looked at the wiring on my 90 so don't know if this is on the same circuit.
