Did anybody hear the Jeremy Vine show today on Radio 2?
it was apparently a debate between Jeremy Clarkson and an environmentalist about the disco mountain climbing episode?
keen to know a little more about what was said

you can listen to it on here

Well his opponent was a George Monbiot whose main argument seemed to be that JC has a lacking in the manhood areas and did nothing to really advance the antis cause as he came across as being mmore interested in slagging JC off personally.
People shouldn't drive 4x4s. I don't says JC.
Only farmers should have them I am a farmer says JC.
I thought it was pretty much an own goal for the antis.
I've got it on video though.

Didn't listen to the show, but going by what what said on the message board about it, the consensus of opinion was, the environmentalist talked over Clarkson was a git, and did his 'cause' more harm than good
the messgae thread is titled 'jemery Vine should be sacked'
No one comments on the car, or if they thought Clarkson was wrong or right.
Ho hum.

The real question was lost within the first few seconds as Monbiot launched into a tirade against JC. I sat there gobsmacked. I reckon the guy wanted to make a name for himself.
Who is he anyway.
email him if you like mail@monbiot.com

Just Listened to it
Go to the link Dave has above for Radio 2, click on Jeremy Vine show, and Listen to Todays show, it's around 31 mins into the programme.
JC said the environmentalist was making a "big tit" out of himself on public radio. He obviously hates JC, 4x4's and he just wanted to slag off anybody that didn't think his way. Did himself no good at all.
JC did point out to him that it was private land and he had the right to do what he wants on private land with the owners permission.

Forgot to mention....
The article was followed by....
Ian Dury & The Blockheads....What a Waste

Yeah I had a laugh at their choice of music.

Oh, those are the kind of Anti's we like - profoundly cretinous!
We need to find more like that.
I think Clarkson did an excellent job of not killing himself laughing. Top Radio!
And followed by 'What a waste' - hilarious!!
Cheers

aye i just listened to it too
and the guy had the cheek to say we are narrowminded and want to impose ourselves on others

Listen too and laughed at. the man has no right to be aloud to sprout his crap for others to hear or read.

Only caught brief clips between lessons but at one point I wanted to get out of the car and hit somebody! Some T**T going on about 4x4s 'hogging' the lanes he was trying to ride his horse along! In North Notts they seem to have closed lots of RUUPS and UCRs and made them into bridlepaths. The gates are special, wide with a low Vee in the middle, a horse can step over them but they could kill a mountain biker if he didn't see them in time!

Ain't that just the point - you ride or walk along a road and you should expect to see cars - it's a road. If you don't want to see cars, use a bridleway.
This isn't an arguement aimed at excluding users groups from lanes, just about people being more aware of their own expectations. We should still show horses every respect.
Persoanlly I think that ranter is in a minority of horse riders - many of those Iv'e passed don't seem concerned that a vehicle has been met on a byway. Maybe I'm just lucky - answers on a postcard!
BTW, Mr Blues, that Shepard is just too darned cute!
cheers

Firstly let me admit that I haven't listened to the actual iunterview, since I don't want to adversly affect my blood pressure, however I have heard various quotes.
One of the arguments that I believe was launched against mr clarkson, in lew of his discovery 3 antics was "what would you do if you met a rambler when driving up that hill ?" . Isn't the answer to that one "wonder why the rambler is trespassing on private property" ?
since it's private land the rambler had no more right to get under JC's wheels than he has to set up a biviwac in my kitchen :)

The argument was lost in the first 5 seconds.
We ought to make the guy an honorary member of Mudclub. He did more to further our cause in a matter of seconds.

Was interesting to hear ramblers saying that the 4x4's shouldn't be on the paths.
They have footpaths. 1000's of miles of them. Why do they need to walk on BOATs and RUPPs anyway? They should expect to see vehicles.
As for horeses!! They do more damage to a muddy track than a 4x4 at times. Ever tried walking down a well used bridal path without breaking an ankle?

How many horse riders stop to pick up the turds - NONE :!: (hopefully SWMBO wont see this post as she owns a horse and would probably try to defend the action of leaving horse poo on the highway)
Agree that Clarkson should be made Honorary Member :D

Not strictly true. I many areas, where horses pass through residential areas they are required to clear up after themselves, and usually do.
Without wanting to get into a graphic description, horse manure isn't quite the same as dog either... due to being made up mostly of grass, it disappears quite quickly, and in many respects is "cleaner".
Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending having large piles of horse manure all over the roads... it is messy and slippery. But where I live, it's just another shade of muck on the roads ;-)

I can assure you he loves you too, for a bit of fuss.
